Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

That all sounds really positive @plasmo

@Mazarita maybe your subconscious is playing with the fame theme because that work of yours that you told me about is getting so much attention. Maybe you are getting famous too!

Re: Night Shift

@eth, I like that interpretation. Maybe I just think I'm getting famous (as in the small successes are going to my head, haha). Good to hear you had a nice day with friend at Japanese restaurant. Managed to do the dishes tonight but my bathroom is in sore need of attention.

@eth, my hamster's name is Digits. She's a female, around a year old. 🙂
I love camping myself! The only difference is that I DO have people to ask to take care of my hamster. That sucks, though.

@Mazarita, thanks.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I just manage to sort of stay on top of dishes, clothes, that sort of thing but my whole flat is in dire need of a deep clean. Dusting and floors haven't been done thoroughly for a VERY long time. I just do what I call 'spot cleaning' - clean small areas that are obvious. I guess I get away with it because there's just me here, no-one to witness my slackness.

@plasmo living in the now is something I've worked at for several years now but it's still a real challenge sometimes (like when ptsd is triggered as it was on Monday). It was very hard not to dwell on the past when I was first diagnosed bipolar 1 because I could recognize periods of mania and even psychosis from over the years and then realize huge chunks of memory of the events had disappeared, even some quite long periods of time. I have learned to forgive myself a bit better over the last few years and release the need to remember all the details. Asking my adult child about how it was for them was very traumatic for them at times so I have stopped doing that and we didn't have anyone else with us for most of their childhood so I can't ask anyone else to fill in the gaps. I was excluding my family those years so they don't know either.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, deep cleaning is something that gets down here very rarely, usually if and when we have to move flat. Partner is better at doing domestics than I am. We live in semi-mess all the time really but I am the best on keeping things as neat as possible in an ongoing way. It's a small flat, easy to mess up, so at least that contribution of neatness from me is something. I'm usually beating myself up about not doing enough at some level of my mind. Regarding your time loss, I relate to this as I can't properly remember how long a period of time I went sleeping 20 hours a day. It was at least nine months but, because I was asleep most of the time, the overall time frame is a blur.

Re: Night Shift

@Snuchu How did you come up with the name Digits?

@Mazarita Have you been able to identify anything that triggered you into that period of slumber? Most of the memory blocks I've been able to identify had been post-traumatic periods.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, she absolutely loves to dig under her bedding. And I love computers, so I decided Digits was a good name. 😛
