Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita

Warmly received 😊

Husband is ping-ponging too. When he is not in a rage about something, and in between his all-consuming eat-and-work-out regimen, there are snap-shots of the guy we know and love. He sent a really supportive email to D3 yesterday about how she has listened and pulled her data usage right back. He Cc'd me into it. It had a loving, caring dad tone to it. It's confusing living with the "good-cop-bad-cop" thing going on, but it also carries hope. He's not all "bad-cop". And with diagnosis and treatment, hopefully some time soon, we should get him back. At least that's what all the support info tells us.

Livin' in faith and hope !! 🌺

Re: Night Shift

Hiya @eth 🙂

I used to get bad chest infections when I was a kid - pneumonia as a child weakened me apparently. I'd have 3 or so months a year with chest infections...

Senega and Ammonia worked well for me. You get it in a bottle from any chemist. I like the taste of it, but most people don't. It loosens things up so things don't settle on your chest...

Re: Night Shift

I used to be such a night owl back in the day when I was ignorant of my bipolar. Nowadays, I guard my sleep very carefully... usually in bed by 10:30 or 11 pm, and awake at 6 am...

Seems to work well for me. I get insomnia sometimes, but usually I'm asleep within 2 minutes of my head hitting the pillow. I am grateful for this gift...

A lot of you peeps seem to have trouble sleeping, and take lots of naps when you can... is this because of meds, or is it just a thing? Must be very difficult to manage MH without decent solid regular sleep...

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Silenus I am using a mucous relief formula from the chemist but will try the one you suggest if I still have a problem when this one runs out. As long as the senega and ammonia is not a stimulant. Do you know if it is or not? I found I breathed much easier in bed by propping up my head and chest on a pile of pillows.

I envy your sleep pattern. So much healthier than what I am trying to change.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth - I'm pretty sure it's not a stimulant. Senega is in the milkwort family. The Cherokee used it as an expectorant...
