Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hey @Silenus, about your question to do with sleep patterns: it's complicated. There are some answers are in @Decadian's discussion thread called The Sleep Demon.

Re: Night Shift

Morning 🙂

Wish me luck !

D3 and S2 were up till 4:00am structuring this TAFE portfolio for D3.

Positives:

It was self-motivated in both of them

It was a compassion cycle - her sharing a need and accepting help, him having compassion and assisting her

D3 produced a solid 3hrs of work

There was no sign of psychosomatic pain in D3 until a hand cramp locked into a fist at 4:00am

She handled that by just breathing through it until her hand relaxed back out of it

Yay !

Not-so-positives:

They both have to get their butts up and moving in a sleep-deprived state - neither are good at this

D3 is working on the presumption she will be granted an extension on the portfolio - yet to be confirmed

So this is why my hair is turning so "blonde" ... 😏

Re: Night Shift

On the whole, that's some great positives @Faith-and-Hope

I can't decide whether I dodged a bullet or am missing out with my choice to not father children... probably a bit of both, I'd imagine...

Best of luck to you and the kidlets... hugs. 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Ok ... progress report ...

Got D3 to TAFE - only an hour late ✅

D1 has just left to be a model for D3's in-class assignment today ✅

S2 is a "no show" for art class again today, even though he chose to sleep in and go late ❎

He has promised me that if he can't pull it together next week he will talk to the doctor ✅

Plan A was to stay at the art centre and have lunch there with D2 and S2 when he had finished class. There's a great little cafe with lots of greenery and great food. Not happening.

Plan B is to walk down to the river cafe with D2 and S2 when I can get S2's butt out of.bed sometime in the middle of the day, eat lunch and look for dolphins, with a giant cup of coffee in there somewhere for me ! Let's see how that goes.

@Silenus, I reckon it's a bit of both ...

Re: Night Shift

Sending soup @plasmo...

Is it just me, or is the TAFE thing really difficult to understand? I was looking into Cert IV, but gaaah!!! Can't make head nor tail of it...

And then I go "Oh look, a shiny thing!" and it's all systems nope!

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope - hahaha... I love your ticks and crosses. I reckon you're a list writer. That would be my pick.

It's the only way to stay even slightly organised within the chaos of the family shenanigans...

Huge hugs and best of luck with it... 🙂
