Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Good morning all. Woke at first light again so here I am on the early shift.

@Former-Member Great that the storage part of the moving job will be ended by Friday. Remember that breathing is good even when we're stressed (says she who probably shallow breathes most of the day, lol). Cool with the daily plan. I'll bet you are a wonderful teacher, @Former-Member.

@eth How wonderful that your mum still does the remedial teaching at her age. Chicken pesto pasta sounds yum. The dinners I have planned for this week are pasta with tuna, lemon, parsley, garlic, butter, parmesan, and pasta with ham and artichokes. Glad you had a visit from a friend last night and that you have other get-togethers coming up this week.

Hope Monday treats everyone fine.

Hi @Mazarita those dishes sound yummy. Hope your morning routine is going well. I'm just getting started after a bit of a rough night. Lots of chores to do today so need to get motivated .... COFFEE!!

Re: Night Shift

@eth Saw that you were up with fragmented sleep last night. Hope you've had a good chunk of sleep since then. I went back to sleep and only just woke again. Coffee is by my side as we speak. Haven't started the routine yet but before too long I hope to be into it...

Re: Night Shift

Just over 6 hours sleep in 3 naps so better overall than only 3 1/2 hours the night before. But not enough when I'm trying to beat the last of this cold I've had. Will keep busy today and hope again to catch up sleep some more tonight.

Has the weather there improved yet @Mazarita - do you think you'll get your beach walk today?

Re: Night Shift

@eth Not looking like a great beach day. Still storms around, overcast, windy, threatening rain. Despite the lack of walk yesterday, it was a gorgeous day weather-wise. Sometimes I just love the rain coming down. Tricky sleep there. Let's hope you are tired out at the end of the evening and get a better chunk tonight. Fingers crossed for you.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita. I hope the same for you. How much sleep do you tend to get?

I love the rain too when it finally gets here. We have little to no rain from May until at least September/October every year ("dry season") but this year there's been less than average for November to date and very little of that in my area. Sooooo looking forward to it. That bit last week was lovely.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @eth. I think at the moment I am getting about normal 8-9 hours in a few bursts including occasional daytime naps when I just can't resist. I've had crohns disease since I was about 18. It's treating me relatively well at the moment but there are still daily symptoms with it that add to fatigue. Interesting to hear from you about the climate there. Hope the rain comes soon for you. I can only imagine what the build up to it must feel like.

Sorry to hear about the Crohn's @Mazarita. Hope today is one of the better ones for you. I'm going to go now and start getting things done. Will catch up with you later.

Cheers. Hope you have some good music to go with your cleaning and get a lot done in easy time.

Re: Night Shift

Hi again @Mazarita it wasn't chores at home it was up at the town centre nearby - licence renewal, currency for trip, shopping etc. Saw someone at the MVR who was really nasty to me after a close friendship a while ago and it took ages for my hands to stop shaking even though we avoided each other. Amazing that it can still affect me so strongly after a total break from seeing her. I nearly came home but decided not to let it beat me and persevered and got everything done. Have had a bit of rest since and even now I'm still a bit shaky. Definitely no more coffee!
