Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@eth Sorry you had to bump into your former friend. Glad that you avoided each other. Good on you for staying and continuing with your errands. There are some people I would be very shaky about seeing. Good idea to have a bit of a rest after that. Hope you quickly recover and can have a relaxed evening.

I'm still going on domestic jobs, of which I've done more than usual today. There's just a second load of washing to hang out and then post-dinner kitchen cleanup remaining on my list. Made it to the beach after all, despite the grey sky, wind and a few spots of rain. Invigorating! I was reluctant about going out. So glad I did.

Re: Night Shift

Well done @Mazarita sounds like you had a really positive day. I'm looking forward to having dinner with my mate tonight and have finished the necessary chores here too. Just waiting a while before I start cooking. Did you enjoy cooking tonight?

Re: Night Shift

@eth I didn't cook tonight, that's for another night. Partner has already cooked omelettes with asparagus. Will probably have some fruit and yoghurt later. We eat fairly small meals. What are you having for dinner tonight?

Hi @Appleblossom I read your post about the records for your family. How frustrating. It sounds like you are still shaken. Maybe a modest meal might help with how your feeling. Sending well wishes.

Re: Night Shift

@Appleblossom My Mum says chocolate is good for her mental health because it makes her happy! If I were you I wouldn't feel like making much effort for a meal tonight, but if you have easy stuff to make it might distract you for a while and eating something like roast vegies (easy peasy right?) will ground you a bit.

Re: Night Shift

thanks @eth and @Mazarita and @Former-Member

I am going to curl up for a while ... not sorting out my history or son's sleeping issues now ... it is so nice to be able to tell people while things are actually happening ... so I dont get accussed of bottling things up as if it something a person would do deliberately ....

and when I do tell .. there are people who actually respond decently ... good night.

Re: Night Shift

HI @Mazarita I cooked chicken pesto pasta which also had mushrooms, spinach and spring onions in it. Really rich. A new recipe and my mate loved it so I'll use it again. How is your night going?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth, Hope you had an enjoyable time with your mate. Yay that he enjoyed the dinner. It sounds delicious.

After more than usual activities in one day today, I fell asleep at 8pm for about 90minutes. Will be interesting to see how I go with sleep tonight. Exceeded my limit on smokes for the day. I haven't yet hit my target yet, have exceeded each of the three days so far. Still, I'm smoking a bit less than last week overall. Counsellor advised me to just keep trying one day at a time so will try again tomorrow.
