Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Hi @Angels333

I'm glad that you're feeling a bit better. Is there anything you can do tonight to keep yourself feeling okay?

I have some very persistent voices. I was here about two months ago, sometimes I want to give up being the responsibile person and just go off to hospital for awhile.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333

You have been maintaining yourself fairly well for a while. Being upront and honest about your issue, going through the appropriate channels, found them wanting, but still you are battling on. Hold a sense of dignity for that.

I have been on both sides of crises lines. As a mature woman I found the counsellors often ineffective. I felt sorry for them and realised I had to let them down lightly and get of the god damned phone.

They shouldnt expect young kids who havent endured much to be in a position to man real crises services. They should be alowed to practise on medium level crises but not high level. They need to put people with a bit more life experience. A bit more triage on the counselling crisis services. Sorry (not to you Angels but to the services), even with task specific training, there is something that kids who have not suffered and come through many life challenges cannot offer those in genuine crises.

I was young 19-20 when I was on the link up phone lines. I could be nice, compassionate, do all the referrals .. they had a shelf of thick social service directories in those days. But I had not given birth or have a clue about parenting or adult family issues.. better than nothing though.

I hope you have been able to put some long term support services in place.

Even saying that. I know how hard that has been for me to do . . due to doctor instability and prejudice and judgement. With all due respect to the medical and counselling professions. I do think that the changes in the system are a good sign though. There are quotas that mean that all the finding does not get used up by the few .. so everyone should have some access to support.

That said I tried my new new doctor today ... she was nice ...and seemed thorough and respectful so I just go with that. This forum has been essential in the interim and for me to even get an idea what current support system might look like.

Re: Night Shift

When things get out of whack too far for me I use the Crisis and Triage Team phone number at my local hospital mental health unit. They are much more qualified and can communicate with my doctors if need be as well.

Re: Night Shift

It's been a long time since I had contact with the mental health team. I was very dosed up on meds and I found the whole experience traumatic, that was 20 years ago. I need to message my psychiatrist just an sos....
