Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I'm here @Angels333 if you need to talk here in the meanwhile. I just checked and the lifeline phone line is 24/7 , 131114, it's was only the online chat they do that you have to wait until 7pm for.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @eth

I really like the chat. I get so down It's like I operate on automatic. I get some mild tourettes I dont want to leave my family but this part of me that wants to feel. I haven't sh'd in 1 month now which is really good but now my mind just turns to suicide, I have walked to a few places and just sat there, but there's people everywhere so I try and look normal not like I'm contemplating things. I know if there weren't people I'd have reall pushed the boundaries today.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333, you've done so well to not self-harm for a month. It's a great idea to connect to someone you can be open with when you find yourself with these thoughts. Beyond Blue's chat is open from 3 to midnight so that's a great option when Lifeline is closed. Here at SANE our chat service is open from 9am to 4.45pm so between all these services you're covered for a good part of the day.

Re: Night Shift

@Angels333 If you are thinking of suicide it's important that you get some professional help involved. I urge you to use the lifeline phone number - 13 11 14 - rather than wait til later for online chat.

I very nearly left my child behind in 1998, was on life support for 24 hours after being found and in and out of hospital for months afterward and the guilt and shame over it and the trauma for my child took years to work through. Please consider this. I can only share from my own lived experience.

Re: Night Shift

I feel like I'm already traumatising them when my 13 yo writes about schizophrenia in her english exam the topic was survival.

Re: Night Shift

@Angels333 yes it hurts them but in the long run they learn, like we do, and become more compassionate people. She must be wise for a 13 year old.

Re: Night Shift

@Angels333 How did you go with Beyond Blue chat?

Re: Night Shift

Beyond blue don't do crisis chat. I think I freaked the counselor out. Now I'm paranoid they'll use my contact info and create a crisis.
