Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re dsp, nothing's certain anyway, they'll changing the rules anyway, now they want us to work with disabilities (as if employees would actually give us a fair go). Trouble is the entire global economy is floundering & managers are looking how to save money. Welfare systems (the vulnerable) a easy targets & its a 'hot' topic that gains votes.
There's a lot of talk about the elderly working longer too, reducing the Retirement Pension. I don't want to let myself get old & frail because of it all.

Re: Night Shift

My grandma went to uni at age 73.

She and my grandad were part of a gemstone club that travelled about to different gemstone locations in Australia collecting gemstones.

She wanted to learn how to cut the pieces she had found, and turn them into her choice of brooches and things. So she studied lapidary for three years.

She rocked too ! 😊

Hang in there @Former-Member . Affluenza is going to bring a lot of people down from their high places progressively, and many of them will be learning to navigate MI. Ironic isn't it ? The people they are undervaluing are the ones they will be leaning on to learn the ropes and stay afloat. We are going to need your outlook and experience going forward.

You guys are another type of SES service ❤️

Re: Night Shift

Good morning, @Former-Member, I know what you mean. But I'm trying to take my psychologist's advice on 'postponing worries' unless they are pressing in the immediate sense of needing emergency attention. Paying too much attention to the media and politics, taking it to heart, is probably unhelpful to us, especially when struggling with depression and anxiety. How are you this morning aside from our talk about the DSP? I seem to remember reading that you got out of the house a bit more recently, which is great. Anything happening for you today?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Silenus I totally agree with what @Mazarita and @Faith-and-Hope have said re DSP. I would add a couple of things. I do not feel guilt or shame about it because my family have paid way more in taxes than what I am being paid, and because I give back to society where I can. I think you do too with your writing and your contributions here.

Also I think you said somewhere that you are currently house hunting. If your money goes into buying a house that you then are living in you should be eligible financially once more.

I'm just grateful not to live somewhere like PNG (my childhood) in this phase of my life, where there are no pensions of any sort at all. Or the USA where I would not be able to afford the necessary health insurance.

You are so right @eth !

We have paid huge taxes our whole working life, and my parents did too.

Hi @Faith-and-Hope -

Thanks for sharing your daughter's health problems - now I can see it - she is in a horrible circle with one thing helping the others and pullling her down

This is more than you can handle without some appropriate professional assistance - and this depends on your cash fiow so if you are in the public system then it will take time I guess

My thought if for her to take some time off school and recuperate - charge her batteries - and to see peole who can sort out her health issues - she can repeat the year. The way things are aren't getting any better - but I guess a good place to start it to talk with her head master - that's where I started when my son's problems got far to hard for me -

I really do think about you when I am not on line - this is a very hard world you and your daughter and your whole family are living in right now - and you are getting worn down too

@Appleblossom

This Royal Commissiom coming up - is this the one you were talking about with me some weeks back when I was first in this Forum? That is a big deal - it must be hard dealing with things like that - they are important though - and as long as something good comes out of the horrors in the past then it is worth it

My best thoughts for both of you

Decadian

Re: Night Shift

Not a good morning at our house so far, but I'm gonna find a way to pick it up !!

I'm wearing my favourite nail polish colour. That has to be some sort of super power ...

Re: Night Shift

That, and chocolate coated almonds for breakfast. 😏

Whatever it takes.

Re: Night Shift

Love the idea of a nail polish super power @Faith-and-Hope!

I just had a toasted almond croissant for breakfast and it's done wonders for my mood. Chocolate coated almonds will surely do the same.

Hope your day gets better
