Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Wow @Faith-and-Hope - that sounds like one heck of a high stress homelife to manage. Walking on eggshells is exhausting for everyone... all these heightened emotions.

Sending gentle healing vibes your way... 🙂

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Just watched the sky transition from dark to almost blue, listening to the birds and seeing the stars fade. What a glorious morning.

About the test at the Dr's - be brave. Better to get the results and at least it can be treated properly and you might get relief. Who knows, your results might be all clear. I have what's called 'dumping syndrome' - charming name hey? It's exactly what it sounds like it might be and I've had what I think could be the same test looking for a cause. They didn't find anything and just say it's stress related. It's awful, especially if it happens when I'm out. Have tried excluding all the possible dietary issues and it didn't change anything. I think chrone's disease would be worse tho' - you'd have a lot more pain I imagine.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, Yes I think it is the same test we are talking about. It's not the results I'm particularly worried about (already know I have crohns). It's the whole invasive process of the tests from the sickening preparation you have to drink to the invasive procedure itself. Even though it's under anaesthetic, it just gets me phobic just the thought of what is being done to my body. I too get the similar problems to you with 'dumping' as you and the crohns was excrutiating before I had large sections of intestine removed. But these days it treats me comparatively well. I think the fact that I've cut down hugely on stress in my life makes a big difference too.

So great you got out and saw that magnificent morning!

Morning @Kurra @plasmo @eth @Mazarita

Best of luck with the tests @Mazarita 🙂

Congrats on being green free, especially in seq...

I love dreams... they are mystical teachers and can be great entertainment too. It's the really disturbing ones you have to watch, though... makes you feel like you're strapped to that chair, Clockwork Orange style... ludvig van blasting at full volume...

Toddles off to check @eth 's new poem...

Leaving warm hugs around the place for anyone who needs them. Take your time with the hugs... they don't go cold... 🙂

Re: Night Shift

You are spot on there about SEQ, @Silenus. I am fascinated by dreams too, have made short films about them and written them out a lot in my life. Agree they are like free movies at times too. These ones lately have me sweating a bit though, Beethoven style. Epic and complex the last one was, like a twisty European art movie. Hope your day is a beauty.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita You will get through it and afterwards I feel you will be glad you did it. I didn't have any after effects at all with mine.

When I was in my 20's I worked for a colorectal specialist - what an experience that was. I was hired as a secretary but with a science background it wasn't long before I was assisting with in-rooms procedures. He was such an old fuddy duddy even tho he was a leader in the field. Not exactly open-minded towards gay men for example. Have written a poem about those days but it's not really suitable for these forums.

Re: Night Shift

Oh wow, what a job @eth. Yes, I'm sure some doctors can be less than savoury while we are under anaesthetic too, which is part of what I find so potentially humiliating too. I really have a general phobia about hospitals and have checked myself out of being an inpatient twice in my life having panic attacks there. But I will be brave this time round. Will probably have to go on a waiting list for it for some time anyway as I have no private insurance.

Re: Night Shift

True that about waiting @Mazarita. By the way what did SEQ stand for?

Re: Night Shift

@eth SEQ = south east queensland. Same situation with the green in Northern NSW. But yeah, not troubled by it now and feel strong about staying that way.

Re: Night Shift

I hope I'm not over sharing, but (butt... haha...)...

I had bad 'rhoids. Real bad. I was scared of having 'em treated., so just let it get worse and worse for 15 years too long. At last, I couldn't squat in the garden to tend to the weeds any more...

Had a rigid sigmoidoscopy... that was... erm... a tad uncomfortable without anaesthesia... hahaha... I wrote a poem about that.

Went in for a banding procedure... the doc used 3 of the largest bands he had. It was not the most fun I've ever had. Incidentally, I was recovering from this procedure when I found out mum was in hospital. I couldn't go to see her for days and days because I was in a lot of pain, and it was a 6 hour drive to get to the hospital...

My butt stopped me from being able to talk to my mum one last time before she passed... stupid butt...
