Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

What a funny and sad story, @Silenus. BTW, overshare away. Many of us do.

Re: Night Shift

The funniest bit was this...

I'm resistant to anaesthetics. I come out of it very quick after an operation. So I told the gasman to be aware of that. He dosed me up nice...

I was having a colonoscopy before the banding, and I'm meant to be anaesthetised and out of it. I wake up though, and I'm looking at the screen as the camera is moving through my bowels. I remember looking at the doctor and saying...

"Oh wow. That looks just like the opening sequence of Doctor Who, only in brown..."

Then I dropped back into oblivion... hahaha...

Re: Night Shift

So sorry you had that experience @Silenus. Yep I have been the one who puts the bands on the 'roids. So much better to deal with them early on but so many people are understandably afraid and delay treatment. The doc I worked for used to say the best prevention was not 'straining at toilet'. Now it's me oversharing but I think this is ok. It's an area of health that causes huge anxiety for people. Incidentally he was known as 'The Rear Admiral' !!!

Re: Night Shift

@Silenus, @eth, the gastroenterologist I was seeing early on was telling me about the staff play he was taking part in - A Midsummer's Night Dream by Shakespeare. The role he'd landed was 'Bottom'.

@Silenus

I love dreams too - it is our brain sorting out our thoughts and filing them so we can find them again

Have you ever noticed that if anyone wakes you up you were having the best dream ever?

Okay - why not over-share? - we can read it or not.

I had a benign tumour in my knee - I borrowed money from my mother and went private to have it done - in 2011 - and I had an epidural and sedation - but I heard the surgeon say

"This is a very big one - how the bl**dy h*ll has she been walking on this?"

That sedation was terrific - I knew I would never be having that again so I enjoyed it - but apparently I was chatting the whole time with the people doing my sedation - I only remember telling them about how my shoulder works - I have wondered ever since what else I said.

So overshare - people know - if this is on your mind or a good story - tell it - you need to

Re: Night Shift

Hi all...
Not coping. Saw psychologist today, but things seem to be getting worse not better. I go to yoga, I run, I try, but it doesn't seem enough. I am overwhelmingly exhausted... I'm depressed & anxious ~ part of me wishes I would have a psychotic break, so I could escape reality.... Full of fear, but at least not real.. I don't.know. Sorry... I wish.it would end.

Hi @Former-Member

I'm sorry to hear that you are not coping and feel overwhelmed. I just want to say that I understand what it feels like to be overwhelmed full of fear and being anxious. I have been like that lately.

Is it possible to call your psychologist and have a chat.

I hope this feeling will pass soon for you. Pls take care. Thinking of you and sending you some positive energy and peace and calm your way. xxx
