Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth I went interstate by train for 2 nights plus one night in the train on the way home. I guess I needed to be very quiet on my return and turned inward, beyond the essentials of 'feed the man meat' and a piano student. It was a lovely time in a cute town in the mountains making music and socialising. Maybe I needed to process it or just hang onto the good feeling... I also was inspired to concentrate more on music on my return. Thanks for noticing I was not as active on the forum. Nothing was wrong. I am glad to see you have settled in. It is great that there are lots of newbies and good discussions.

Have been looking a bit online at the Alain de Boton tour and his school of life ... philosophers have been saying for a while we need to dialogue ... maybe psychologists need to marry philosophers and then we can put those lovely psychiatrists out of business.

Re: Night Shift

Hi special friend @Shaz51

Thinking about you, it is very difficult to get through this time ......oh golly...being a carer .....

CAn you write down main pionts to take to the GP ?

This is what has helped me in the past. Also, I'm trying to get a carer/someone with lived experience to spend a couple of hours with husband once a month/ fortnight just so he can .....relate to someone who is a male as well...........

Dear @Tufflife Thinking about you .......

Remember you are the most important for the next long long time. I've also done that but not able to anymore because of my husband. But we both took someone into emergency about 2 months ago. It's very exhausting and won't be doing it again in a hurry.

But you know, it's that caring is'nt it?

Nioght night all thanks for the great conversations

Night night @Mazarita you romantic thing you !!

Re: Night Shift

Hi @PeppiPatty looks like they have some gorgeous fabrics. I love batik. I know how you feel about the lack of $$ on the pension. I went to a L'oreve party today - perfumes and candles, and really loved some of them but couldn't afford a thing. I was a bit embarassed and left when everyone started ordering. Just a candle with a nice jar, very good scent and large but still - $49.50!!! and everything else was more expensive. Will have to make do with the ones at Dollars and Cents for now!

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Shaz51
Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. A lot has been going on at work .
Don't despair with the med changes. Different people react very differently from others. Some meds take a while to kick in while others seem to take effect very quickly.
Ihave never responded to any antidepressants. Recently hower I was put on and ad that also has excellent results in reducing anxiety. I was started on this med principally for anxiety.
By the fourth day I was a different person. A couple of weeks later the dosage was increased a little. The result appears to be the final tweak that has led to my liberation.

Today I am finally comfortable in my own skin and the real Kurra has emerged. The mischievous me has finally returned. I'm nicely balanced and grounded. There is no sign of an impending high. It's still early days but this appears to be the final tweak that was required to allow a true recovery. While this may well be temporary I can truly say that at this point it appears to be THE answer.
Time will tell. It's taken 26 years toon meds to reach this state. It's been and arduous journey but well worth the trial and error and all the waiting.
Thinking of you.
Hang in there. Hugs

Re: Night Shift

I've not been home long tonight having been to another 60th birthday celebration . It was a thoroughly enjoyable night. Socializing is something I haven't genuinely enjoyed for many years.
Tonight because of the wonders of modern pharmacological, I was able to be relaxed, happy, mixed in with the crowd and fully participated in the evening. Previously I would have been tucked aeay in a corner on the outside, looking in working out how long I would need to leave it before escaing back to my home.
Umh, tonight I was the last to leave.
Hi everyone! !!!
