Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Good morning everyone.

Hi @Kurra, glad you have joined us in this 24 hour night shift, drop in chat centre, or whatever it happens to be at the time. Awesome news about the meds helping you so much! I too have been on various meds for about 25 years now (bipolar with anxiety and depression). Mine are working pretty well at the moment but I've also just got back home from a trip down south, which often energises me. Hoping I can keep up the positivity without getting too high or else slumping, which is a bit my pattern even on the meds. At the moment I am feeling overwired a fair bit of the time but it's not too out of control.

@PeppiPatty, the hand-dyed fabrics are gorgeous. Your Charlie Brown avatar is a happy sight, my friend.

@Appleblossom, wonderful to read you having good times with music and travel.

@Shaz51, thanks for asking how I am. Very active creatively and feeling happy about that. It's the main thing I have to give to the world (whether the world is highly interested or not, hehe).

@Tufflife, hope your friend is doing okay. Are they still in hospital?

@eth, how are you today? Hope @BlueBay is doing better after a night's sleep. The internet here was at a crawl last night and my web pages kept timing out on my replies.

Best to everyone I haven't mentioned. May today treat us all well.

Re: Night Shift

Good morning @Mazarita I'm doing well today thanks. Just took myself out for brekky of pancakes and yummy coffee for mother's day (no family here as you know). How are you today? It's a lovely morning here.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth, Happy to hear it's a lovely morning for you. Yum pancakes. I love maple syrup. I'm good this morning. Just uploaded one of my videos to the web. I wish I could share it here but it would give away my identity. But I don't think you saw the one I made for one of @PeppiPatty's poems a while back so I'll share it again (I made it under the name Mazarita so it is fine to post here):

Beautiful @Mazarita and @PeppiPatty. The words, the music and the imagery work really well together. Skills!!!

Re: Night Shift

Did you have a good sleep last night @Mazarita? What are you up to today?

Re: Night Shift

@eth, the melatonin definitely got me to bed earlier than usual (about 10.30pm). Did wake up for a couple of hours in the night but it's early days with it yet. Feeling fine this morning, not groggy as I was warned I might. I was wondering whether you and @Former-Member had tried the prescription/hormonal grade variety, or the over-the-counter herbal formulation. The pharmacist I spoke to said the prescription version was the only one effective for serious sleep problems.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I haven't tried it at all. My GP prescribes another sleeping med for me that I use occasionally to break the cycle. Glad to hear you had at least a slightly better night. Are you still feeling 'wired'? I think that's the word you used in another post. If so it might take a few days to settle down again.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, ah, that's right, I remember now you said you didn't know about melatonin. I'll keep you posted on how I go with it. Yes, still wired. Doing relaxation and breathing to try to keep myself from spinning too far. The meds help stop it from going extreme too (more than anything else really, but it all helps). Plan to get out for another walk today. Autumn and Spring are the best times of year here. Will ring mum later (after midday as she has always had unusual sleep patterns too).
