Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita I'm back after another broken night. Great to hear you got a full sleep. The dreams should get better after some time. Did you used to dream when on the green? If not then you've probably got a whole lot of dreaming to catch up on. Is there a theme to them? Talk about them if you want to.

Re: Night Shift

Hi all my friends

Please forgive me for not tagging today.

But you all know who you are.

Typing is so hard at the moment. I have to battle the movement disorders from the meds.

Sooo tired.

Today I have an ultrasound on and my liver function blood tests have been too high the last two tests.

It just seems my body can't tolerate the meds but my mind needs them desperately

So overwhelmed.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth,

'Broken Nights' could be a title for a new poem from you...

Here's a tiny attempt at poetry from me...

morning in the afternoon
having ate discretion
in sickness at night

I made this poem a little while back. It was a small attempt at 'found poetry', which is basically when you take words from another piece of text and turn it into something new. An odd discipline but I find that kind of thing interesting.

I used to remember that I had been dreaming when on the green but not remember the details much. The ones I've been having since stopping feature some of the many people I have met but perhaps lost contact with over time. There was a ghost in the one last night. An older woman collapsing in a cafe. Much more disturbing ones down south, including one that recurred in a three-part continued narrative as I woke from broken sleep and went back to bed. That was about trying to escape from a religious sect.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita I like your poem and the idea of that form of writing.

WOW about your dreams. Are you able to come back to yourself and realize it's just a dream easily when you awaken? I dream once or twice a week that I remember but probably more often that I don't. I often have some random person from the past in mine. Sometimes it's quite funny when I think about it later. The series you had about getting away from a cult could even have been symbolic of getting off the green I think.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333, I was typing when you posted your last message and missed it before posting mine. It's awful that you are getting movement disorder from your meds and about your liver issues too. Sending a warm hug.

@eth, really interesting take on the dream about the religious sect. I tend to think of dreams as almost pure metaphor, with many possible interpretations. They are like riddles that don't have a single answer I think. Your reading of the dream makes a lot of sense.

About to go out now on some errands and for a dentist appointment. Ciao for now.

Re: Night Shift

@eth I have never seen you as manic....Always like reading your posts........

On sleeping......I am ALways tired. I think that if I stop my medication; I will probably get huge more energy for about 2 months and then go to bed and pull the sheets over my head and think obssessive thoughts.

I dont sleep......I just am always tired. I read or do art all the time.

@Mazarita missed you when you went away. Again have not seen you as anything but Mazarita at all. It was you who started up this thread......I LOVE this thread...... You were in a religious sect?? Jeepers kreepers....One of my old friends I used to write about her time with a religious sect and her Mother is still with them......I miss her so much......she has terrible times with mental ill health.......She insists on meds 24/7 from her Doctor..........She stopped our friendshio because I didnt want to talk to her 5 hours a day on the phone.........

Re: Night Shift

Hi @PeppiPatty I haven't really had any mania for a couple of years now. Had a bit of hypomania now and then last year but not yet this year. The meds I'm on are doing a good job for me over recent months. If I went off them the same would probably happen to me. I'm tired a lot of the time too and don't get out much most of the time. Sometimes I think I'm just lazy but mostly I recognize that I still have depression, but not as extreme as it used to be. Since I went through extreme mania episodes I just don't trust myself to get too stimulated in case it happens again. I now have a list of known triggers and am much better at recognizing when they are happening. I will be talking to my Dr about the sleep problem when I see her and may even go back to the psychiatrist to see if my meds need adjusting.
