Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Daily report. Got to bed by about 2am last night. Woke again at first light. Back in bed by 6.00am. Up at about 9.30am. Not yet started on daily plan but will get to that soon. Yesterday was a slow one. Rain prevented the beach walk. One round on the exercise bike and doing stretches. Mindfulness breathing made me so relaxed I fell asleep afterwards. Later fell into a mindless, immobile depression in a chair for a while. A low day, though still better than where I was some months ago. Nothing planned in the way of leaving the flat today except another attempt at getting to the beach. Tomorrow is my next psychologist appointment. Looking forward to the bus trip up to the next suburb, being out and about amongst people, and to the counselling session. I might visit an op shop or the library while I'm there. It's a colourful village centre and can be an enjoyable place just to hang out. Hope everyone here has a good day.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita I'm having a really slow day today myself after another very broken night and a nap this morning. Sounds like you've got nice plans for tomorrow that you are looking forward to.

Hi @Appleblossom you were right about being wide awake after all that sharing last night. It was good though, thanks for listening. Mostly these days I don't talk that much about the past. Helps me realise I have overcome some major hurdles. Hope you ended up getting some good sleep yourself and are having a relaxed day today.

Hi @eth and @Mazarita

I think it is important to know and share so we are whole people .. not just lists of medications and symptoms. Your story @eth does have impact but that it is why i am drawn to the forum to have deeper conversations. Thanks ... sorry if I left you high and dry ...so to speak ..

I have had a very relaxing day ... too much my son was up all night and cancelled his plans .... but is chipper ... I slept for most of the day too .. my head pain sometimes gets to me ... I was supposed to have a lady drop by at 2 but she hasnt shown ??? Choir tonight.

Re: Night Shift

Sorry to hear about your head pain @Appleblossom. Does that happen often? Good to hear you have choir to look forward to again.

You didn't leave me high and dry last night at all. Went to bed and did breath mindfulness and visualizations for an hour then gave in and came on here again for a while and read some other threads. When I went back to bed my thoughts were a lot more settled and I slept a few hours.

Re: Night Shift

The head pain is there most of the time ... partly due to previous SH ... years ago ... it might be why my language style is higgledy piggledy ... havent had MRI ... singing Bach's Christmas Oratorio ... I will sing withis choir as long I can keep up with them and if and when my capacity slides I will join another ... they are good people.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom and @eth,

Good to see you around this day. 🙂

I was online last night when you were posting back and forth but didn't want to intrude on such an intimate discussion. Not having children myself I felt I didn't have much to add, other than my experience as a child of a (sometimes) single mum, and a daughter who distanced myself from my parents for some time (a long while ago now). Forgiveness went all round after some years apart and relationships have healed in lots of ways since then. I hope something similar can happen with your distant children too, @Appleblossom.

Done a few things so far today, the good ole exercise bike and stretching, bed making, kitchen is clean, hooray. Rewarding myself with some time with friends here.

Re: Night Shift

@Appleblossom constant head pain must make life really hard on top of everything else. I don't know what SH refers to, sorry.

I used to be in a choir before I moved up here but nothing like the standard it sounds like you do. We were a community group and sang folk songs, chants, all sorts. The emphasis was on having fun with it and children were involved too. Each week someone would share a song with the group and eventually we made a song book which I still have somewhere. Haven't found anything like that here.

@Mazarita I'm sure your input wouldn't have been an intrusion. I feel as if I bared my soul somewhat, but in a safe way. Glad to hear you've reconciled with your family.
Enjoy your friends visiting.
