Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @BamBam I tried a bit of colouring lately, but its not my main way of being, not really into it as a kid.

I do like mandalas though.

I also have been a swimmer. I started laps at the Beaurepaire and I guess I felt bad for doing only 5 or 10 laps as every one there was so brilliant at sport as well. Before that it was more surfing and beach rambles I loved. I guess comparison is always around and often it is not very conscious. The good thing is that it was the activity that helped me give up smoking cigarettes. I must be weird because I feel that normal for me is 10 -20 laps when I havent been regularly exercising because I am no longer a smoker. I am beginning to realise my expectations are up the pot and I push myself too hard.

I was diagnosed with depression a long time ago, I have had many experiences and am passionately interested in most aspects of mental health. No one told the psychiatrist I was swimming 20-40 laps then, so maybe it wasnt depression ... I dont know any more.

Therapeutic horticulture sounds very interesting. Tell us more about it. Can you talk about your job?

Re: Night Shift

Thank you @PeppiPatty, @Former-Member, @Appleblossom, @Jacques & @BamBam...

I had a big cry....

I went for a walk in the darkness of the farm, but came back... My partner was upset I went away without telling him, but he was kind to me & reassured me (or did his best to) that I am not a failure.... I am not shooting ducks. I am not setting of bombs (referring to recent news)... Just have to keep trying to get off medication, so I have the ability to get a degree... I guess. Wish I could stop cold turkey ~ speed it up...

I colour in when I'm in hospital.

When I swim laps I usually swim 1-2 km ~ I am rather slow though.

Thank you for the kindness...

Namaste,

A

Good luck, be kind to yourself

Re: Night Shift

Sorry you went off in the darkness to cry. @Former-Member I used to do it a lot when my kids were little. I would go off for 20-30 mins and cry into the night and then return and finish the dishes, or the nappies (mine were all cloth) or the general laundry. Often I just ran out of the house after the kids were down. Couldnt hold the tears down any more. So I have been there too.

We cant actually take another person's pain away. After 30 years therapy I am finally getting a bit of distance and relief from it, it might not take you as long ... you might be brighter, there might be more helpful info around etc. I am getting used to being able to live with it though. Small consolation maybe, but ... I try not to make rash promises.

I know a girl, younger than you to whom I say similar things as your partner. It is not even necessary to point to major counts of wrong doing in the news.

It seems that the humans who are gentler and actually care about the environment and how they effect others get bullied more in this world full of individualistic me me meness.

We really do need more people like you, @Former-Member and more like @BamBam many on this forum. I am still interested in why you enrolled in therapeutic horticulture.

The world doesnt need less people who care. The world needs more.

It needs less of the greedy kind ... sorry @PeppiPatty No rich hubbies for you .. lol.

lj i got your cuddle. i feel you wrapped around the top of my shoulders. litttle. boy told me a secret. he wants. to stay in your lap.

the shock of today is fading.. @Mazarita. an Apple i think the mood stabilizers are working. usually im so intimidated that when my brother and mother get on the. band wagon and talk head injjury talk i crumple and collapse but this time i thought that they sounded ..belligerent . silly......show offy. when we went into emergency.... we just were taken through a special door. and i did not immediatwly think i gotta tell mum. i just was there living the experience and being part of it.
my son was and is so terrified. i said i cannot even imagine what you are going through. i know what im going through and i feel my life is over...
but this is your experience. you need to think how you need to live it. he is okay. he has head space tomorrow
