Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks Jaques for your advice.

He has come home. We are discussing seeing his GP in the morning. He acknowledges he needs to see a psychiatrist - it's a start. He is on anti depressants at the moment, which I'm sure are inappropriate for the treatment of bipolar.

Tomorrow is another day (actually it is here already) and hopefully he will start engaging with some Meds and health care. I'm glad I have found this forum to read too.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Tiredandsad

Can you get him to just give you an idea how long he will be. A couple of hours ... Lots of people go out for walks ... but clearing it with you ... can make a huge difference ... eg .. dont wait up ... I just need to burn off energy ... or think something through and clear my mind ... see you in the morning ... or something like that.

Glad you are getting some medical support.

Re: Night Shift

My mood has picked up a bit since my chamber choir went splat. Not going to the 2 performances planned freed me up to see my son in Measure for Measure and means I can go to recorder weekend workshop ... and keep that interest bubbling along.

So I made deliberate and alternate plans and am refusing to give any more attention to that particular person, she drained me enough. I am lucky I have other options.

We had a good weekend. My sons performance one day and then the big choir with the big Bach work on Sunday. This time to rehearsal I arrived with my son and so was not stressed or crying. I have been placed next to lovely ladies .. both music teachers ... one has a neck problem ... one has a tricky son issue ... so we are able to respect and support each other appropriately.

Still it helped to be able to tell the forum for 2 days I was totally gutted. I have been isolated for a long time. now I feel I can have appropriate conversations/posts in a timeful way ... and not having to swallow my feelings or saving up huge amounts of stress so that I vent like Mount Vesuvius. It is better to have little gentle smoke rings like Mount Batur (Bali).

Still so proud of @Mazarita for getting her act together ... yay

@PeppiPatty It makes sense to be quiet for a while ... just taking it in is a lot.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks for the good wishes on the festival application, everyone.

@Appleblossom, so pleased you are sounding much better than you were recently. Great that you can get the dark stuff out here rather than blow up like Vesuvius. Thanks for being proud of me but I have to admit I don't feel much like I've got my act together at the moment. Festival application was an achievement but I went at it in a manic and obsessive way so most healthful daily life activities have fallen by the wayside. Staying up too late at night again, sometimes doing overnighters. But it seems better for me to be doing something creative than just behaving unwisely like this for no reason, which I also tend to do.

@Tiredandsad, hi and welcome to the forum. I have a bipolar diagnosis too. Meds especially have helped calm down the intense restlessness I used to experience. It sounds like that could be part of what is driving your husband into his wandering ways. You are right that anti-depressants on their own can even excacerbate bipolar, as I believe they did with me prior to bipolar diagnosis. Big relief that he came home and now sounds willing to undertake some treatment. Glad you have found the forum and best wishes to you both. By the way, you might be interested in a discussion night happening soon at the Carer's Forum about caring for someone with bipolar.

@Drac0, yes, this discussion has drifted into the day as some of us have (sometimes) improved our sleeping habits over time. It's now a 24 hour drop in centre in here for anyone who wants to chat about anything at all. Hope you managed to get some sleep last night and that the walk happens today. I've been so slack on exercising lately too. Maybe a walk will happen later if I can muster up all my determination to get out today.

@PeppiPatty, seeing your son's counsellor at this time sounds like a very good idea. Thinking of you and what you are going through. Hugs.

@Former-Member, so sorry you are feeling overwhelmed. What an inspiration you are that you just keep moving through the hard stuff anyway. Even though everything feels so hard, I hope you can also congratulate yourself on what you are achieving. Huge steps in a short time. Really hoping things settle for you soon and there can be more relaxation over time.

@Jacques, hope your day unfolds gently.

@Shaz51, strawberry icecream for me please.

Warm vibes to all.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita, @Appleblossom, @PeppiPatty, @Former-Member, @Shaz51 & everyone else.

@Mazarita & @PeppiPatty, my sleep patterns are still all over the place. Didn't get to sleep until just on sunup this morning then dozed on & off. Finally dragged myself out about 1:30pm. But after a bite to eat I did force myself to go for a walk so that was good.

Glad you had a good weekend @Appleblossom. Good that you have found something to fill the 'extra time' you have.

@Former-Member, I'm bad enough at messing up my own keyboard, I don't need kids for that. It's worse when my mind goes so much faster than my fingers can. I'll type a passage then look at it & have to go back and fix all the half-words because I'm trying to keep up.

Take care all.

Dear @Drac0

Golly gosh.....your becoming one who even is known more than me last week.....great achievement for all your hard work. I dont work like you do, I am completely self involved and just freak out all the time....

I thankyou thank you for your messages to me.

When your a proud consumer meaning ;I have accessed mental health agencies in the past;

I feel isolated

Not achieveing my own goals

My own daily mental health is collapsing

Searching for that time when we get to that place;;;; the wonderful place where we are together.

It's like hate the condition love the person.

I think another person who is writing (yay) is @Tiredmum...she maight feel like me.

On the no sleeping, I am getting Serequol. I am being medicated honestly and with pride. I wasnt sleeping for a little while.........

Also; it's about doing one nice thing for myself every day. This is definately a girl thing but

Today, I'm looking for a crochet pattern for crochetting a bag.

I found a beautiful image for @AppleblossomAppleblossom. Shes my friend. Can you share with @Tiredmum Apple.?

Ive been reading you and I think that your amazing how you can look at your own badtimes/ good times.

I just heard from my old volunteer place and they said that my youngest son needs to get into contact with Carers WA to give me respite from my husband and get my own studies/artwork underway

Hello to all WA ers like @peace or @Boot it's very warm here......
