Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

There is one line that hits me in your post @PeppiPatty....

"It's like hate the condition love the person."

I like that. It shows you, unlike many people with or without a MI, see the illness & the person as separate things. That's the way to look at it. You have an illness, you aren't the illness. It's not what we really are.

I have to say I really have no idea what services etc are out there for those with MI. I see my GP, only ever saw 2 psychs and when I feel up to it I may see a counselor. I don't know what else is out there, never had the energy or desire to look. So I guess I'm a non-consumer....

Glad you're trying to do at least one thing nice for yourself each day too. Hope things go well for you.

Take care

Dear @Drac0

To be honest, it is very very hard and you must remember;

Love the person. HAte the condition.

I think that this last week, I have been on the piont...pionter....I'm walking out the door about 5 times every day. But it's the condition. Not the person.

The very hard thing is seeing all everything going into cigarettes. But what to do hey? It's the condition. It's not the person and if I just think clear, it's not him.

I think that you are'nt that at all about goihg to the GP. I think that you have been isolated for a long time.

Re: Night Shift

I had a family assessment with a counsellor lady, not sure what her qualifications are but in the interview with me she said that I was strange and wanted to know what I thought was wrong with me because i don't have a lot of friends and I cut off contact with my family (for good reasons I think..) but ever since I've been asking myself whether who I think I am I am or whether I am just an illness and wrong! Gah heavy thinking. But mostly I think I'm pretty annoyed with the crappy mean lady...

Re: Night Shift

I actually laughed out loud at that last line @Former-Member. I think you are right. No matter who she is or what qualifications she has, she has no right to question you in that way. Who/how many friends you have & who you do/don't have contact with really isn't her concern. Unless there is some threat to your kids from them it really has no bearing on anything in my opinion.

Yes @PeppiPatty, you, no, WE, have an illness, we are not the illness. I guess it's like the idea of labels. Give the illness a label, hell yeah - it opens a path for treatment. But I am not the label, I am me. You have diabetes, you are not diabetes. You have cancer, you are not cancer. I have a mental illness, I am not a mental illness.

Hope you guys have a good night & better tomorrow. Take care.

Re: Night Shift

Yeah, I laughed too !!

Honey, you are better than this!! I AM SO sosoo impressed with you that you have walked away from your Mother,

I hate to bring this up but when I went to family legal acourt, the strange "Councellor," person walked in and told me that my ex husband got there earlier than me and he knew of everything I had done to him and he was going to make sure I didnt get what I wanted. AFter one hour, he sort of.....strangely said he regretted what he said....very strange but ......again, walked away...........

I destroyed me for ages ........

........Ive never had ...'friends.....Yeah, I guess I am popular but .....I have worked so hard to make sure that no dangerous people are around me and I live in an area where I havent much potential for real meetings with people/ friends. And then, who would understand my husband???

Its like, I've been thinking that when you haven't got that simple love from your Mother,,,,,,you just are .....different...

....but my son came back, my son came back. You should see him, he really loves me. It's worth more than anything in the world. I broke a famly tradition of women with MI who have no uderstand of themselves.

He told me the other day that whenever he sees Grandma, he walks away feeling so guilty. I just said, look....... if she was really in strife, I would be there but she is very very fine.

But it brought back so many memories.
