Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I noticed @PeppiPatty dropped the name Stanton ... and looked him up. She (You have ) has got good taste.

@Mazarita Have you heard about his non 12 step life process approach to addictions?

Sounded very good to me ... not saying invest money into it ...

I never liked the 12 step approaches ... and the concept of addiction as a disease which we are powerless against ... but thats just me... I kinda did it my own way

Re: Night Shift

Hi everyone,

It's been a few weeks since I've posted in this discussion thread. Since starting volunteering I have gone downhill. It has been just one thing too many in the weekly activities I had slowly been building up over time, and it seems to have brought everything down. There have been physical issues with it too (legs mainly). So this morning I rang and withdrew from doing that for now.

I'm sitting in my nightie with the blinds shut as I write, unwilling to dress and open myself to the day, which is how I've been a fair bit over the past few weeks. I've also failed to attend most of my other weekly activities except for medical/psych appointments. I have kept up with the video making though. Engagement with creativity has often been a saving grace even at the worst of times. There have been some beach walks, not as many as I was doing previously. Tomorrow I plan to make it to group meditation again.

That's it for now, just an update on how things are travelling. Hope others are doing better. I've been thinking of friends here while I've been absent.

Dearest @Mazarita Yes. Thankyou So Much for the message .
It's really good that you are learning about yourself my friend
.....
When I first joined the forums I started working and after 2 months I couldn't get out of bed
Now even working 2 silly jobs is causing me distress

Re: Night Shift

Hi @PeppiPatty,

SO GOOD to chat with you again. THANK YOU so much for responding to my message. It means a lot to me, especially at this time of downturn. I'm sorry you had to go through not being able to get out of bed when you were working back then, and that you are struggling now too. How is everything with you aside from the jobs? I hope it's settled down a little with your neighbours, especially the one who damaged the back fence. I hope you are getting some time to take care of yourself.

I did make it to meditation on Tuesday and also to the activity yesterday with the Phams worker. Both have made me feel positive about getting back on track again. However, I fell over backwards from where I was sitting yesterday and had a terrible night of severe migraine with vomiting as a result. Recovering from that today so won't make it to the support group I was thinking of going to this afternoon.

I've started seeing a new psychologist since I posted a few weeks ago and she is treating me using DBT techniques. Wow, I didn't expect that to be happening but all is going okay so far. I've also almost completely withdrawn from green now. My final quit date is 6 April. I will be in Melbourne then with no access to it for three weeks, so that will help with the final stage of this long withdrawal from it. No hallelujahs from anyone please until I have got back home and managed to resist when it is around me once again. But I am feeling cautiously good about myself with this at the moment.

So feeling a lot more positive than I have for a little while. Thanks again my dear friend.

Hi @Shaz51, thanks for the fond greeting. Hope you are going okay with the sad events lately and that hubby is okay too. Let us know how things are. Hugs.

Hi @Former-Member, thanks also for saying hello after a little while. So sorry to hear you are having a bad day at work. I feel so pathetic failing and crashing from my little gig when you are facing such huge challenges and meeting them head on, despite difficulties. Big hugs back atcha, hope that things get easier for you very soon.

Re: Night Shift

Hi Dearest @Mazarita, @Former-Member, @Shaz51, @PeppiPatty, @Appleblossom & @Former-Member,

I apologise for being absent from the forums lately, so many new people make me nervous, i have been feeling overwhelmed with my change in life style and lack of sleep. i have been getting severe Restless leg syndrome.

@Mazarita, i am so sorry to hear your volunteer work has been such a difficult transition, it is OK to leave and regroup, some times we bite off more than we can chew, it feels sometimes we are getting better and jump into things feet first. i hope you can regroup and try again in the future. I am so glad to read your addiction treatment is going well, so long off the green stuff and having your deadline coming closer you must be so proud of yourself, i know i am so proud of you.

@Former-Member, I have been reading and i am so sad to see you struggling so much, you try so hard and being a single mum is so much workload. you are doing well under the circumstances. my thoughts and well wishes are always with you, i am proud of you, the strength and courage you show every day is amazing.

@Shaz51 I am so sorry to hear you have been dealing with so many sad family incidents. It is so hard to deal with one death let alone other sick family members, you must be so exhausted with the emotions and the travelling. my condolences to the loss of your loved one. i hope your hubby is coping, please keep an eye on him, depression can set in so fast.

@PeppiPatty I am so happy to read Mr Arlo has had his long blond locks trimmed. i am sure he looks just the cutest now 😄 how have you been going with your neighbour you have been helping out? i think of you often, mum has nearly finished another cross stitch, i will upload a pic for you when she is done. how are you going with the Department of housing getting the gate fixed? i hope things are settling down for you.

@Appleblossom, sorry i left you a message on catching up 🙂 glad to see you around the forums.

@Former-Member, i am so sorry to read you are struggling so much, my thoughts are with you my friend, try to stay positive and please see your doctor if and when you struggle too much, i have missed you around the forums, but i understand how it is.

Hugs to you all, sorry about the long message, i just wanted to speak to you all individually, you are all special to me, you are my SANE Family 🙂 please take care and hope i am more adventurous in the future on the forums.

Jacques
