Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

is sounds like you @Shaz51

I've felt special when you know that I'm not going well that you say hello to me.

I think that your step children are happy that you love your husband and they can work the rest out......

You might need to remind them that your Husband is grateful to have you around too......Im reminding my son in Queensland that he's lucky to have a Mum that loves him so much.

My son..... he gets into thinking;

"Hey, I've had the worst life".....

but my son hasn't because he gets support from me and my brothers. Plus he works and goes to Univrsity and when things get really hard, he goes to see a therapist. His problems come from he decides to not using medication and he get's paranoid and then drinks lots of alcohol.

I sent him a message I was going to send on Sane Forums but didnt send it. I pretended I was writing to someone called Carol. l didnt call it the proper name Sane Forums 'Carers Forum,' either. He's not talking to me now but I guess he will soon.

The reason why I sent him a message.....pretending to talk to someone called CArol...I think I said it was for parents supporting children and married partners who suffer Mental illness I was really annoyed that he was telling me that it's my fault that he meets girlfriends who treat him badly and then blaming it on me saying that he meets women who are like me.

Hope you have a good night @Shaz51

How can you remind your step children your not absolutely what they want but it would be much worse if you werent around and your husband loves you very much??

Re: Night Shift

I have heard of people down-sizing to move out their adult children. @PeppiPatty Its your call about your son .. and 2 adult males in the house are often a head-ache.

Some of my pain drops away when I feel my son and my life is getting better ... Individully and together.

Everybody ... I have some great news ... my son has been selected for a singing scholarship which includes mentoring and a small fee ... Yippee! He can say he sings for his supper now ... I think that I am finally getting to a situation where I can back off as he is finding his way and doors are opening ...

In a way it is better than the Bmus course he started .. this is practical and in the style he likes ... and with some top people. it is also part-time and his other interests seem to be gathering steam too.

We were walking through chinatown and stumbled on the New Year .. and had dinner out to celebrate.

Such a boy ... though ... there was only one small piece of capsicum in the meal he ordered ... it was feed the man meat ...

I am tired though .. physically and emotionally ... he made a man decision and we caught the bus home rather than walk the last bit.

Re: Night Shift

Yes @Appleblossom I had no choise on the downsizing. My father bullied me out of my home ....I'm still getting used to a lot of new things in my life and one is realising that was not my fault. I live in Public housing......in paradise......people would give me their car to live where I live..... accross the road from a beautiful part of the beach in WA. Actually, somewhere, I forgot where, says it's on one of the top 20 most interesting parts of theWorld.

Thats nice. I find it very difficult to get to the beach in the past two weeks. I feel bad but there you go.

@Jacques...me and husband have noticed Arlo walks around smiling....I will get a photo when my place is a bit cleaner (lol)

It's amazing to hear about your son. I feel very good around my sons too but, just in a different way. Maybe Im proud how I dont interfere in their lives.......I dunno.......

My youngest son has a bit of growing up to do and lets see what he does in the next 2 weeks..........

I wrote to him and said that this home is a little too small but we can hold onto his stuff if he doecides to fly over East Australia.....the other side of the Universe........and visit his brother for a couple of weeks Also, he can stay with us while he tries to find another place. My poor son. He is only 21 but has made it clear that he doesnt need me to help him make decisions. I have written to him and suggested that he move out of the place he is living in. A part of me thinks that he is just going to move accross the road in an equally bad place but it's his decision.

My husband has a hobby !! When I forst remet him, it was and stilll is..eatching comedians on utube. I LOVE watching comedians like Lenny Bruce etc but now......his hobby keeps him amused for most of the day. planting plants, let me get my act together and will send photos.......

Your life is getting better....do you feel supported? I need heaps of support and write often and do other things.....to get support.....

hi @PeppiPatty, of course Mr Arlo is smiling, he is happy, he has awonderufl owner and everyone loves him, i would be smiling too 🙂

@Appleblossom, congradulations, that is such wonderful news about your son, i am so glad it fills you with such pride, you have been a wonderful mum and now you are reaping the rewards of your effort, be proud of him and be proud of yourself.

Re: Night Shift

I feel more supported than ever before @PeppiPatty

but more important I am better at knowing who I am ... thinking of @kenny66 again .. and his idea that it is very hard when we dont have a sense of self.

I think that is the main thing I have achieved through all my therapy ... they helped me just survive ... but now I am able to integrate my past and know who I am .. not just my siblings' sister or my parent's daughter.

I used to be terrified if someone asked me to choose something ... i was worried to have an opinion ... the word "favourite" would trigger me .. as I was definitely not it.

Apparently I colluded in being powerless in relationships ... and still do without thinking ...I did learn to make sufficient choices to faciliate social interaction ... eg type of coffee ...but it was never the core of me ... and often felt designed to please the other than to please me.

I just wanted a happy family. Nothing else mattered.

Now I am learning to call it as it is for me ... and stand my ground and not be too pliable.

Thank you @Jacques

It has been an unusual and unexpected road.

Glad little buddha is discovering his green thumb ... I only found mine after 40.
