Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Apparently it was a form of financial abuse within the marriage, but I had no idea and was quite accepting of it.

That was it exactly about men's jackets. To get equivalent quality fabric and cut etc in women's clothing you would pay twice as much .. but the main reason I did it was for the size. Not a cute size 12.

Op shops have more range and become a lot more civilised and sorted with mannequins. Once I rearranged everything in rainbow colours ... it didnt last long though.

I had a great day ... singing ... opera and oratorio again.

Yesterday I went to see a friend play the role of a witch in a Purcell opera.

Re: Night Shift

Ooh yes colour coordinated stock is good @Appleblossom - I love our local op shop - get some great kids clothes in there of high quality brands that have hardly been worn!! And come across some nice clothes sometimes too! Even kids clothes now you pay far more for little girl clothes than than boys and there is always a mich smaller range of clothes for little and baby boys!!

@Former-Member@Mazarita@Appleblossom@PeppiPatty@Loopy Hi all, I must apologise for my arrogance at this site. Arrogance is something I am trying to unlearn at the moment. I've still actually got a lot to learn on my christian walk - i had been headed in the wrong direction for a very long time.

Hope you are all well today. My advice is to ignore me if i'm naughty! :0

How are we all?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Terry,

I hope you don't mind me responding, i had the same problem when i was younger, frustration, anger, low self-confidance and self-esteem all contribute.

I hope one day @Terry you find inner peace, and acceptance of others beliefs and views, sometimes i do not agree on a persons view personally, but it is their values and beliefs, i am always trying to live by the ethos, live and let live, if a person is happy, who am i to ruin their happyness.

Everyone has their own journey and their own past, we are all unique, we should all be valued and respected. no matter how extreme a persons view or belief is they belive it for a reason.

We all live our lives based on our past.

I am glad you have found a flaw and are trying to fix it, we all have flaws, once you have acknowledged it you are one step closer to inner peace.

Take care

Jacques

@Jacques

"if a person is happy, who am i to ruin their happyness" - i'm not aware of having ruined anyone's happiness here at the site, Jacques. How have I done that?

Re: Night Shift

Oh no @Terry, i am sorry i was refering to myself, not to anyone in particular, sorry for any confusion, i am just trying to explain how i live my life. how i accept others and not be rude.

I am not saying anything about you, i am trying to say i am proud of you finding a problem and searching for a solution.

sorry if i upset you, take care

Jacques

Re: Night Shift

I am glad to be able to say that I am sleeping better.

When @Mazarita started this thread I was up at night a lot ... though probably not as much as you maz ... it was just so glad to be able to break through the loneliness ... thanks again ... I am glad it has morphed into an anytime thread .. for catch up and chat. I dont seem to be needing it at night as much.

@Former-Member I find it interesting that you felt a bit overwhelmed by more new posters on the thread. It takes time and energy to keep up with different people are on about ... and its totally fine that you focus on work and kids and just pop in. I think I was always trying to do too much for too many people but had no idea that it wasnt normal for there to be lots of people in a dining room eg at an orphanage maybe I normalised it in my head cos of the school room.

@Terry

Language use is fascinating. It is so easy to take things others say personally ... it is probably better to check like you did @Jacques is a rare breed ... really lovely ... there should be more like him ...

better to check than internalise and worry unnecessarily

Lovely to hear your plans for the future @Loopy .. Go for it.

Yesterday as I was walking home ... I rubbed my hand in the peppercorn trees to get the smell ... like my dad taught me ...and started to think about @hiddenite who also loves using her sense of smell.

@PeppiPatty hope you are doing ok

At the moment I have a gardener armed with chain saw taking done an old dying wattle near the back fence. The kind of work shaz does with her hubby...this one likes long cups of coffee and chats about life.

Son is trying to practise piano in the front .... we are doing well.

Is your other half planning to keep the plants in pots ... on a balcony ... or do you have a little courtyard???

Re: Night Shift

Hi everyone,

@Appleblossom, great to hear you are sleeping much better. I'm getting to bed earlier than I was most of the time now too. Sounds like things are going well for you.

@Former-Member, I know what you mean about this thread sometimes flowing through very quickly with lots of messages from different people. I don't keep up with it all myself anymore, no worries there with wanting to interact with just one or two people at a time. As @Appleblossom has said, it's totally fine for you to pop in and just respond to whatever you happen to see or to just add updates on how you are going. The most important thing is what you are doing in your real life. That's my attitude to the forum for everyone really, including myself.

I started my volunteer position at the op shop today, just a half day each week. They picked the kind of person I am very well and have assigned me in an ongoing way to looking after the books, music and DVDs area. Came home with a couple of books I'm looking forward to reading: 'True History of the Kelly Gang' by Peter Carey; and 'Corfu' by Robert Dessaix. I've read both of these Australian authors before and like them very much. I even got a staff discount on op shop prices, two books for a dollar, bonus! Feet very sore after four hours standing and squatting on concrete. Only because I'm not used to it and already have lower leg and feet problems. I just gave the tootsies a massage with coconut oil mixed with geranium essential oil. They are feeling a bit better.

Hope today has had some good moments for everyone.

Re: Night Shift

Dearest @Appleblossom

How are you? Our wonderful staid silly billy ......sycophrant Premier ....the one who casually commented on his one off Amandi siut....has just spent millions on a new river front of Swan River........

Me and husband are too bored to check it out; asp. since it was 43 today and looking forward to the week about the same temperature.

His suits are very black and they look smart. I wonder if earing a new suit makes you a better Premier?

We have a little courtyard. When it gets cooler, Ille photo his new hobby. It's just wonderful seeing him so happy
