Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Dear @Mazarita

Great to hear about the volunteer work...I LOVE that Peter Carey book....Actually, I think I bought it for moe of my brother's when I read it......

It's right what @Appleblossom writes but I feel that writing here,,,,,makes my 'normal life,' clearer for me. I dont know if I could write yes; both my parents are malignent Narcassists with a feeling of finality before.

It's excoting meeting more people online isn't it

Hello @lisajane, Im sorry that I got confusing re; my messages before. Hope that your day was good.

I only meant, you dont need to write to me if you get confused with the messages because I know that you think of me as one of your SAne forums Mummies!! teeheehee!!

Arlo and I went down the beach at 5.30pm today. Can you believe that those people who dont live in the beach front are all visiting..... (lol)

Is'nt My kitchen Rules exciting??

Re: Night Shift

I am glad things are improving with him @PeppiPatty

A HEALTHY happy hub with healthy hobbies is huge.

@Mazarita Good to hear you survived first day ..

I have read a little of both those authors .. but not those books.

Way to go ... staff discounts at opshops ...

There are so many perks from working ... of course we all would if we could.

Re: Night Shift

I haven't been keeping up with the forum except in small fragments over recent days due to the anxiety and mental energy required to get myself through my first half day of structured work (volunteering) since 2008. At the time I wrote the update about that yesterday, I was suffering only from sore feet. However, I went into a strange 'mixed state' emotional space not long afterwards, which lasted for hours. The feelings were very alienating and disturbing and had me pacing and moaning out loud. Partner wasn't that interested in my distress, which is understandable given the years he has put in with looking after me with things like this. So I reached out by ringing one of my nearby friends, which turned into a spontaneous visit about 8.30pm. Everything settled down from there and feeling tired but okay today.

Thanks for the good vibes on surviving the day, @Appleblossom. @PeppiPatty, smiling to think of you and Arlo on the beach yesterday. How was it? What did you see, hear, feel? What was Arlo up to? Great to share the author interest in Peter Carey and Robert Dessaix with you and @Appleblossom. As you said, it is exciting meeting new people online, even though we are meeting here under less than ideal circumstances in our lives and will never meet in person. It's a special place this here internet forum.

hi @Mazarita

I dont know about this forum......I just feel I've got back up :0)

before, I would have said to people....."hry, I am a very proud consumer meaning I had the guts to search out MI agencies in the past .......but I would have been insecure saying it.

thats VERY interesting in looking into yourself after the op shop experience.

I would also pick u that if that was me..........

without forums ; be angry at someone or get very emotional.

with forums; someone or .....more like 20,000 prople to dicuss the feelings over.

It's so warm in Western Australia.......I'm going to collapse in bed for an hour.......

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita * years of being mostly at home would leave you extremely overwhelmed by all the stimulation and input of the job ... the staff ... the rules ... the customers ... identifying with both sides of the fence.

Take it gently .. maybe find a physical way to shake of the stress. As you get used to it .. those feelings will lessen.

I stayed involved in Vinnies for many years although only did the opshop for one year ... its a good in to going back to socialising .. as you get all types coming in to shop ... well dressed people looking for vintage or retro ... and truly down and out ... it becomes easier to let the little daily interactions be part of a passing parade.

Its huge you started ... you are very directed ... first getting outfit .. worrying and getting a headache .. but showing up the next week .. it is huge. and shows how isolated from mainstream you had been.

Congrats .. I have not been as isolated as you lately ... but have in periods when I was in my 20s .. living alone and seeing very few people ... its just your sensitivity and your skin will thicken a bit ..

Re: Night Shift

Hi all

it's 43 degrees here. I came into the bedroom, airconditioner on.

Arlo and @LittleBuddha just joined me. There is a family who lives opp. me and they are all outside drinking water......how do they do it??

I so hate the heat. I went to work this morning......What you spoke about @Mazarita.....I think I'm getting in touch with how I am....

It might be the heat.......only 1.5 hours of cleaning for a couple. I came home and went straight to sleep. We went into Centrelink to hand in that we live together now.

Our pension's been cut down a significant amount.

I think I'm just tired.

FORGET what Im writing okay? I better lie down and sleep xx
