Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Sounds like a lovely afternoon. Wonderful about holding the baby. I had a brief chat with a child on the beach this afternoon at her instigation. 'Turn around', she said down at us where we were sitting at the bottom of the rocks. There she was at the top, such a cute bright friendly face. We exchanged greetings and not much more but it was great to meet her for a few moments. Long chat on the phone to a friend who has just come home from brain surgery. I'll be keeping in closer touch and helping in whatever way I can. Other than that a quiet day at home here too with an early start about 6am (after only about 4 hours sleep). Got on the exercise bike after a very slow morning, did my stretching routine and mindfulness practice. Chats and daily living things with partner. Debated with myself about having a nap just earlier and decided against. So online here instead after sandwiches for dinner.

Re: Night Shift

Easy dinner for me too - microwave spaghetti bolognese coming up.

Must be nice to have a beach nearby. It's supposed to be really good to soak up the negative ions at the beach. Always makes me feel better when I do get there but it's over the other side of town and also there are crocs everywhere up here. Sounds like you're a lot better than me about getting some exercise.

Re: Night Shift

We moved in where we're living about 18 months ago. The beach across the road was the first thing that drew me out of a long period of being almost completely housebound. When I got there I could barely walk down to the shore from the lack of exercise, puffed out and legsore. I used to just go down there and plonk myself on a dune and look at out to sea at first. Over time the beach has brought me out of extreme unfitness. Exercise bike I like because it is something I can just hop on at home.

Re: Night Shift

How wonderful to have the beach across the road! I wish I could afford an exercise bike, I think I'd use it. I have a neuroma in one foot and since it was diagnosed I've been unsure what exercise to do. My Dr says to get in a pool so I can do walking with less weight bearing and swimming but I haven't made it there yet. I'm hopeless about cold water even in this hot climate.

Re: Night Shift

Wish an exercise bike would turn up there. Ours was given to us by a friend who had bought it but didn't use it. I don't swim very often either though I know it would be good to do.

Re: Night Shift

The Dialogue with other SANE Forumites thread seems to have just disappeared while I was doing a response. Can't work out what happened. Any ideas?

Re: Night Shift

Oh it seems it's not the whole thread, just the last post and the response I spent a while typing. First time I've seen that happen.

Re: Night Shift

I'm seeing a response from you in that thread on this page.

If you mean another message you were posting maybe you could look for it in your drafts. You will find them by

  1. clicking your user name in the top right area of the screen
  2. looking on the right hand side of the next page for 'autosaved drafts'

Let us know how you go.

Re: Night Shift

Weird. It wasn't in autosaved drafts either. It's ok. Myabe the other person requested it's removal. They seem to have left the conversation. Hoping it wasn't a problem that I responded but it happened so fast, as I hit post, so maybe they left at the same time. I'll try not to dwell on it. Some things sometimes remain a mystery.

However I did see that a picture I uploaded has been approved so I changed my profile picture. I like the new one. I love lotus flowers.
