Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member DON'T let yourself fall into a hole without telling someone so they can help fish you out. I used to do that - be in terrible emotional pain and smiling on the outside - it's a VERY bad idea. Get help/support before you get into that state again.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member I'm hearing you! The only people I share anything with about my lived experience is you guys here on Sane. And I only share a very minimal amount, the rest gets internalised. In saying that I am working on writing some thoughts down in a small attempt to externalise them more. I also try and jot down some disputing evidence on my thoughts - why they aren't true.

Sometimes I have this overwhelming desire to share my lived experience. I think so many people suffer behind closed doors and that really saddens me. I'm not brave enough to share my experience though, as much as I would like to.

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba - write your memoirs and then decide if you will publish. writing your memoirs is probably pretty important for your 'sanity', and people now and in future generations should know what we go through and have been through. writing your memoirs is a good way to share your stuff directly with god and to heal. and then my advice is to try to get them published. that's what one of the books i am working on at the moment is about (my life story). the other book is a book of poetry.

Re: Night Shift

It's tempting @Terry. I worry I wouldn't write well enough and people wouldn't be interested. But I agree it would probably help with staying 'sane'.

When I am well, which I am at the moment, I have so many things I wish to do with my life. I sometimes feel I need 10 lifetimes to achieve it.

When I am not well, I just wish I was dead.

The worst bit is, I cycle from well to not well very quickly and often without warning.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member that's one of the reasons i think you are so brave to go back to work, lisajane - i have noticed that most people with mental illnesses aren't in touch with their feelings, which means they don't recognise when they need an outlet of some kind or another for their feelings and/or time out.

Re: Night Shift

Hi everyone,

So busy in here tonight, haven't read all the posts. Just got home from a friend's place where we were hit with a wild electrical storm and blackout. It scared me. I stood in a darkened doorway and did deep breathing to get through it. Afterwards, when the whole suburb was black the hoons came out on the street burning around. We lit some candles, sang a little, talked a little, played some guitar. We were all desperate for a coffee, lol. It was so quiet without the power on. It felt a bit like camping. We get storms here fairly regularly but this one was a big banger!

@PeppiPatty, I saw your post about your mum. How awful for you. I think @LittleBuddha is so wise to suggest you not contact your mum for now and maybe not until some of these feelings settle down a bit. So sorry you are really struggling at the moment.

@Billamba, I really felt uncomfortable after raving on about my work history and past in one of those discussions the other day. I appreciate the life I've had in many ways, and what's happening now, even if I haven't done so well in the past in the paid workforce. My moods go up and down and this comes out on the forum too, sometimes even without me realising it. Thanks for your good wishes on the op shop volunteering. Drama queen here too!

@Former-Member, so glad you got through week one well. You are amazing, inspiring and I just know you are a great teacher too. How wonderful about doing the choir and music!

Re: Night Shift

write your memoirs - it is extremely 'healing', and god does care. don't worry if you don't write well - i will edit your work for $140 an hour. hee hee! :0

seriously 'though, don't worry if you don't write well - if the story's good enough, and i bet it is, a publishing house will put a good editor onto it. and even if you decide not to publish, it is an extremely worthwhile and healing exercise, as described above.
