Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba Wow, bill - sorry about my last post - it was meant to be funny (to Peppi) but was probably rude an insensitive.

You give me hope that i can actually find a workplace that doesn't discriminate. thank you. things probably aren't as bad as i think they are - because i spend too much time working from home i get socially isolated and well, to put a diagnostic on it, i get 'cognitive distortions'.

Re: Night Shift

I hope you are okay @PeppiPatty. You are so lucky to have a husband that helps support you and steer away from making rash decisions. Hear for you if you would like to chat 🙂 ((hugs))

@Terry - I do like you. I just felt compelled to share with you my thoughts as I was finding it very confronting personally. Ps I'm a she not a he 😉

@Former-Member - that's good that care has gone well this week. I think your little boy is your youngest (?) so I guess it's only natural. Starting school is such a monumental milestone and it really does mark the beginning of a whole new chapter filled with lots of growing up! I do hope he has an amazing week next week - and you too!

@PeppiPatty I shall have a think of some ideas for Terry! 🙂

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba no worries. i suppose the obvious answer is that i should repond, not react. gee, i'm going to have to do a lot of responding.

childhood triggers etc. it's been a nightmare getting to where i am in life now. pass the ice cream.

Re: Night Shift

@Terry... All good re your post to @PeppiPatty I'm not offended at all 🙂

It's hard when you are isolated and I definitely know what you mean about cognitive distortions. They are the absolute pits!

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba yes, i think i 'catastrophise' pretty well, or since i am a writer, should i call it 'sensationalising'?

Re: Night Shift

Ice cream!!! Yum! I'm into chocolate tonight. Not a good thing, I know I will make myself pay for it later but right now eating my emotions masks some feelings and I think is making me feel better.

Yes I think responding and not reacting is a really useful thing. Challenge their views, check to make sure you understand their views correctly and aren't jumping to conclusions (I'm an expert at this!) and check their understanding of mental illnesses. So often I think it's a lack of knowledge that causes stigmas.

Re: Night Shift

Oh god me too @Former-Member

I actually think I'm at skill level 'expert' for catastrophising! I'm sure you and many others can relate! I'm naturally a bit of a drama queen too which I don't think helps!
