Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Lol @PeppiPatty I'm a bit too nervous to go back to that conversation 💕 I'm not sure there really is an agreed on definition of culture. It's a group of people who live by a similar set of agreed norms, and can be thought of as being as large as a whole nation or as small as individual families. But don't quote me, that's very simplistic.
How are you @PeppiPatty?

Re: Night Shift

This is the other thing that annoys me about Australia: non-sensical conversations. The word 'culture' is in the dictionary.

Sorry, I know I'm arrogant but funny conversations fly around in Australia. Like trying to assert that people in Australia are the only people in the world (apparently) that are kind and supportive to each other and that this defines the Australiian culture.

Re: Night Shift

@Billamba 'colonial culture' is the term I have used here for the mainstream australian culture since the establishment of the colony.

Thanks @PeppiPatty. I really appreciate your kind comments.

I really enjoy conversing with you too. Im a little spasmodic on when I do write on her but I tend to read the forums every day and love seeing photos of your beautiful Arlo. x

Re: Night Shift

Hello all,

Very interesting discussion about Australian culture and how society is changing. For me it’s definitely technology that has brought the most change during my lifetime. It has made the world so much smaller. For a long time I was kind of anti-technology, but now I’m so grateful for the ability to be able to access information and knowledge whenever I want. I think it’s true that knowledge is power and in that way I think technology can be a huge equalizer.

@Terry, I’m not quite sure what you were getting at when you mention “non-sensical” conversations, but it seemed like you might have been suggesting that the conversation in this thread was non-sensical, which might offend other members. Apologies if this wasn't the case. In any case, I'd just like to remind everyone to keep the conversation respectful and welcoming, as per the community guidelines. The Forums are intended as a non-judgemental space where everyone can feel safe and supported in sharing their opinions. I think there can be lots of interpretations of words, within or despite their dictionary-given definitions.
