Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Last night an old friend got in contact with me and asked if Id like to catch up with her now that Ive moved home. I was quite surprised and said that yes Id love to. We are going out for dinner tonight and I am beyond anxious. I havent been able to focus on anything, my heart feels like its going a million miles an hour, I feel like Im going to vomit etc etc. No real point to this post I am just so frustrated that no matter what I do I always feel like this!

Dear @Billamba

I know how you feel......Im going through it myself....... Im so anxi0us and I know I can resolve this myself but I'm tired and stressed.

Does this feel like what your going through?

What is happening with you is just something that you are used to feeling but maybe not acknowledging it.......

There is this ......feeling that you can acknowledge and honey you can get through it....you have been through a terrible time with the move and now you have resolved it but maybe your feelings need space to feel anxious still.

Does this ring true for you??

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Billamba,

How wonderful that you will be meeting up with an old friend. I'm sorry that you are feeling this anxiety in anticipation of the event though. It is frustrating to me too when I experience anxiety around events I am otherwise looking forward to. As @PeppiPatty has suggested, I think it may be at least partly due to the big change in living circumstances happening for you lately. I think changing where you live is one of the most stressful things you can do and can take a while to process.

Are there any techniques that help you with your anxiety, like deep breathing exercises? I do these a fair bit at any time of the day or night to help manage my anxiety. I find that even just sitting in a chair and bringing the mind to the breath helps relax my body and nerves when feeling overstimulated. If you are anything like me, once you are at the dinner, nervousness will likely diminish. Meantime, my suggestion is to take it as easy as possible this afternoon in preparation. Looking forward to hearing how it goes afterwards.

Re: Night Shift

Thank you @PeppiPatty

Yes what you are saying does ring true at times. I do just need to 'ride' some of these feelings out, aknowledge them but dont let them rule me I suppose. Im just so over everything and I am so freaking done.

I was supposed to start some casual work last week. 3 days a week. A sense of purpose. Its been postponed to this coming Monday. My employers cant help why it was postponed and thats okay. I was just so holding onto it as a lifeline - a sense of purpose, sense of selfworth. Im running out of money quickly too which is just increasing constant feelings of anxiety and depression. Some days I can block it out. Those are the days I do nothing really...

I want to message my friend and say Im sick or something and cant go tonight. I know I shouldnt so Im trying so hard not to.

How are you @PeppiPatty?

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita. Ive had a lay down and spent some time focusing on my breathing. You are right concentrating on breath has helped relax my body and nerves. Ive spent some time doing my make up which is something I really enjoy (amazing living in the Outback turned me into a girly girl - who would have thought!). Just sitting now before I drive into town. Breathing. Fingers crossed it goes okay. Gosh I just hate this. Ive always had it but yes moving home has exasperated it again.

@PeppiPatty - how did you time with your support worker go?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Billamba - I can relate to the anxiousness! I had an appt for my son with a new health professional for him today and I was so nervous about it! But she's lovely and I think she'll get on well with him and wil be able to help his teacher at school as well with his stuff, but I built up so many worries about it lol I'm sure I looked extremely tense doh! Oh well! Cross that off my list!
Hope your dinne goes well and the anxiety settles when you are there 😏

Re: Night Shift

Hi everyone....

Thanks to all who replied yesterday @Mazarita, @Former-Member, @Billamba, @NikNik (I can't remember everyone who replied!).... I sent an sms to my sister & she called me. (She called me again today). I shut down my computer last night & just watched Offspring. I only saw all the replies when I quickly checked my phone before crashing to sleep. I'm feeling pretty low & depressed again tonight, so I'm just going to close my laptop now - it can be too much stimulation for me at times. Its been too hot to do much today, but I did go to hot yoga (ironically) & did some laundry. I see I've missed a few pages of conversation - sorry, but I'm not up to catching up at the moment. @Billamba hope the catch up with your friend is enjoyable & the anxiety eases.

Sorry I haven't written this well - yeah, I'm anxious too.

Namaste,

Anna
