Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Namaste @Former-Member, good to see you back again. You are still young. Sometimes I feel old (especially since I've started menopause), but I've still got a young at heart feeling.

If I had a magic wand I would remove anxiety from your life. I've lived with it since childhood too. The good news is that it is much less than I experienced around your age. Hopefully time will assist you too, as well as the various active approaches you are taking to improve your condition. Great that yoga is proving to be so very beneficial to you.

I got $50 from my Mum for xmas too. I bought a top at the op shop today for $3 so still $47 left! 😛 I don't watch much TV and don't recognise Carl Barron by name, though I might recognise him if I saw him. Cool that you now have that to look forward to with your partner. I'm planning a trip to Melbourne in April to see Mum, other family and friends. I'll be taking her out to dinner while I'm there so will also get a chance to wear dress up clothes for a change. It is a nice feeling to do that sometimes, though my days of wearing heels are behind me (leg problems). Still I've got some really nice flats that I save for special occasions too.

Thanks for your support with the smoking reduction. It's so true what you say about knowing about sleep hygiene but finding it very hard to adhere to. Psychologist gave me a couple of extra ideas today (meditation an hour before bedtime, turning off the computer and TV and doing colouring instead in the final hour of the day, lowering light levels in the flat if possible at that time too). I agree that we shouldn't beat ourselves up about it, but just keep trying.

@PeppiPatty So glad you are getting a lot out of the vibration machine and looking forward to seeing it!

Re: Night Shift

Hi again @Mazarita & @PeppiPatty...

We don't actually have TV reception in the cabin. We hire DVDs - movies & TV shows. It costs $150 to get the antenna etc from Bunnings, which we will get when Rake &/or Offspring return to TV sometime this year. I haven't missed free to air TV, especially not the advertising & news!! (We have been living in the cabin since August).

Carl Barron is bald, big ears, skinny, short & funny!!! (Well my partner & myself find him funny!) We saw Robin Williams live in 2011 - great show! The world lost a beautiful, giving soul....

Yay for being able to dress up @Mazarita 😄 I might not wear the heels. I've never mastered wearing them with ease & I don't think I've worn them for maybe 1.5-2 years now, haha! Or I may wear them 😉 Glad you have a holiday to look forward to too!

I'm sure I will be able to manage the anxiety better in 20 or so years time too. I've had the persistent generalised anxiety since childhood too (can't remember if I've mentioned that before!) Now I'm less heavily medicated I feel like I can actually learn & implement skills to manage it somewhat.... Long journey ahead!

I'm the opposite to you I feel like I have an old soul!!

You can buy a lot more tops with your Xmas $$ if you can get them for $3. Unfortunately op shops remind me of the stress of childhood. I do buy books from lifeline bookfests though.

Your psychologist gave you some good tips re sleep hygiene. I have two colouring-in books & lots of pencils & pens. I haven't done any for awhile though. It is a good activity for when I'm in hospital, but hopefully there will be none or at least less of that this year!!

Great the vibration machine is helping @PeppiPatty 😄

Namaste,

Anna ❤️

Re: Night Shift

hi All,

Hello @Angels333 I saw you on the feast.....thinking about you........

I came in too late and Arlo was busting to eat everyone's bones too......

Heres a photo of my vibration machine. I got a hypervibe vibration machine.....it's good. I feel all my fat shaking...even the fat under my face.......scarey............

It cost 1000 interest free ....20 per week......

I researched a lot and found that this one makes the most sense.........

Re: Night Shift

Hi @PeppiPatty. Your picture isn't showing up yet, just have to wait a while for it. Plenty of bones still there at the feast for Arlo I think. What have you been doing today, any plans for tomorrow? I went for a big beach walk yesterday and it was great. Not today because I had another appointment and my legs were too sore for beachwalking after getting out to that. Hopefully tomorrow.

Re: Night Shift

Good to see you too, dear @PeppiPatty,

So glad to hear you are still at the beach regularly. It cheers me up to know you and Arlo are out there doing it too.

The machine looks like a box of some sort in the photo. How do you use it?

Awesome that you are having a good experience with your new support worker and are getting a break with her. I hope you get more breaks aside from that too. I used to be addicted to milkshakes and had one every day when I was younger. Yum. What flavor do you have? My favorite is caramel. Next week I meet with my new support worker. Looking forward to it though I'm a bit anxious about starting with a new person. A bit scared that she might be too 'strict' with me or disapprove of me for some reason. What a silly billy I am sometimes, eh? Lol.

Cool that you have the ARAFMI support group. I was at my support group yesterday, there were only two of us and the group leader but it was good anyway. I've become a regular of the group in a short time. The place I go has only been in existence since about last September and is in walking distance along the beach (takes about 40 minutes). The group I like to attend (specifically for bipolar) happens every two weeks, which seems like good timing to me now as my life is getting busier with appointments and activities outside the flat.

Hope you get some okay sleep tonight.
