Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.
To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.
Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.
Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.
Sorry to hear you are having trouble sleeping, @Mazarita. I think its good that you dont just lie there and try and force yourself to sleep. Apparently that is not very productive for training your body that bed is for sleep. Says me who is laying in bed browsing the forums - Im sure thats a big no no in the getting to sleep world!
I hope you managed a few good hours of sleep.

Re: Night Shift
Thanks @Billamba. I've had about 4 hours sleep. Feeling pretty tired and headachy but will probably stay awake instead of napping (another no-no for sleep hygiene but I haven't been able to resist doing that for some days this week). Psychologist appointment today, going well with the smoking this week compared to previous weeks. Glad to have this to report to him. It's been a tough week with that too. As long as things are improving though, I'm satisfied with progress.
Hope some of the admin threads you are dealing with at the moment untangle themselves for you today.

Re: Night Shift
Hi @PeppiPatty, @Mazarita, @Billamba & @Shaz51!!
Gosh, you gals are making me feel young! 33 now - 34 in March.
I've been struggling with a lot of anxiety, which has been making me feel suicidal (I am safe). Plus, I had a bad headache for 2 days - which meant I missed hot yoga!! Boo!! I enjoyed vinyasa yoga this morning. I was able to do some challenging poses (asanas) & my yoga instructor gave me some encouraging feedback, as well as guidance. There was more meditation than usual in today's practice. It was all very helpful for relieving some anxiety. The benefits of yoga just keep adding up, while the ONLY negative is cost. It is proving to be the best therapy I have ever experienced!
With some of my Xmas $$ I brought tight shorts for hot yoga & I'm looking forward to trying them out on Tuesday! (I'm also looking forward to Friday Feast tonight!) With my Xmas $$ ($100 from 'mother in law' & $50 from mum) I got a bra (30% off) & a cotton pj set reduced from $30 to $12. I have enough $$ left to buy a ticket to see the comedian Carl Barron in early February!! (Partner got $150 from his mum & spent $100 on a big second hand gym set, so also has enough $$ for a ticket!!) I'm very excited & it will be fun to put on a nice dress (I might even wear my heals!)
@Mazarita I'm glad to hear you are on track with ultimately quitting smoking! Well done - keep being strong. Sorry to hear you are struggling with sleep. I have also struggled with sleep two nights this week. It strikes me that we seem knowledgeable about sleep hygiene, but can't put it all into practice... I'm still not looking at my phone when I can't sleep (good sleep hygiene), but I don't get up when I can't sleep (apparently bad sleep hygiene) - several reasons - turning on light might disturb partner's sleep, often feel too exhausted to read, colour-in etc, but not exhausted enough to sleep, using the computer is a very stimulating activity (& would mean that I could view the time & get more anxious about not being asleep at 12 am, 1 am, 2 am etc)... Also, on the subject of napping - sometimes you just can't keep your eyes open & brain alert! It may be due to not sleeping much or well the night before, medication, exercise or emotional exhaustion from something like being social. What I'm trying to say is we know what sleep hygiene is, but let's not beat ourselves up when we don't do it perfectly!!
Hope to see you tonight!
Special thanks to @Billamba & @PeppiPatty for checking in on me! Thank you for being there for me the other day @Mazarita❤️
Namaste,
Anna

Hey @Former-Member,
Glad to hear that you're enjoying yoga. It's amazing isn't it. I find it can help to stay grounded when sh*t hits the fan. Thought you might interested in the thread started by @MoonGal about setting goals for exercise. It's place where we check-in to stay motivated. @Mazarita, @Former-Member and @CannonSalt are proving to be quite the motivational supportive team.
