Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hey @PeppiPatty ,

You have mentioned that you feel tired and unmotivated often. Have you talked to your GP about this? You have a thyroid problem too if I remember right. Could it have something to do with that?

We did end up going out for a walk on the beach today so got in about 45 minutes to an hour of exercise after all. Feel better for it and just for being outside, but still feeling kind of floppy.

Good on you for making the decision on the vibration machine. Hope it works out great for you. Do you have it yet? Photo of that too if you can. Yay for Arlo's haircut.

Re: Night Shift

Hi all...

Extremely anxious... Writing about my anxieties would take forever - I could write a thesis on them if the anxiety didn't make me so tired!!

I went for a walk on the beach today & a swim in the ocean. That was beautiful. I wish I could do it everyday.... It would improve my mental health massively. I was barely anxious while at the beach. We visited my partner's uncle & we just got home about 40 minutes ago. I had a shower & I am laying on my bed trying to distract myself on my phone's internet... Feeling really low again, but I'm safe.

Glad you are cutting down on both types of smoking @Mazarita

Namaste,

Anna

Hi @Former-Member,

Here for a bit of distraction if you'd like. At a loose end with myself today and keep falling asleep on the bed.

It is fantastic hearing that you have been at the beach and that you found such relief from your anxieties there.

I've lived on the coast on and off in different places for about 8 years now. At first I lapped it up completely. Then I went through a deep depression and withdrew even from the ocean for years. It's only been in about the last 18 months to 2 years that I've started to come out of that shell again. I walk on the beach usually at least three times a week. My legs still give me trouble and I have to be careful not to push them too hard or they'll get worse according to the physio. I need to strike some sort of balance. If anything I err on the side of pushing harder than I should probably. But I walk fairly slowly and sometimes take breaks. On the odd days that my legs feel normal, the difference is enormous and the walking an extra joy.

I do hope you get your dream of living by the ocean in the future. I'm sure it would do you a lot of good.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita... Must be withdrawals making you tired. Stay strong. Sorry to hear your legs aren't strong. I kept powering ahead of everyone today and had to keep slowing down (partner, his uncle, mother in law, brother in law) I wish I had the mental health to truly appreciate my physical health. Considering what I have put it through with anorexia and overdoses.. It really is amazing. Sorry if I'm writing all the wrong things - when I'm this anxious I can barely think straight. I'm really glad you back enjoying the beach again.

Re: Night Shift

Namaste, @Former-Member.

What you are writing reads just fine to me. But I'm so sorry that you are feeling so distressed. Hope it eases very soon.

It's great that you have that physical fitness. Before the last few years I had good strong legs but I've developed something called 'chronic compartment syndrome' in the front side muscles of the lower legs. Calf stretching is one of the things that helps but I have to admit I've been lax about that lately.

What are the kittens up to tonight?

Stressing me.. Eldest is in season.

I'm not that fit at the moment.

Sorry,

Re: Night Shift

Hi everyone, good to see you. My head is a bit all over the place at the moment. Up past my curfew again after 1am. Sleep cycles have been out of whack this week. Long beach walk today and the first support group meeting of the year. Another intense one but good I think. Visited a friend late afternoon and stayed for dinner. Home by about 8. Still feeling a bit spun out by the intensity of the social day (by my standards). Keeping me away from the bed. Don't want to lie there flooded with these paranoid memories of the day. Writing here instead. They are receding and I've got my nightie on, so will probably get to bed soon.

41 degrees, @PeppiPatty, glad you have the aircon.
