Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Oh dont we need our space. I am looking forward to my time away but there wont be any privacy for most of January ... shared sleeping arrangements etc ... cosy aircraft cabins.

Thanks @PeppiPatty I tried to be brave ... I tried to grow up ... but I guess I am reminded of the saying "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" ... the only good thing ... that I didnt actually rush.

Lately I have been reclaiming childish things like "ooops" made a mistake ... or "dunno" freedom not to know ... to reclaim a sense of childishness ... not in a dementia way but in a deliberate light-heartedness that wasnt part of my youth.. so i can laugh more now and not scare my children with tales of doom and gloom.

I will miss you all but I am not taking my computer away ... just my phone ... for texting son ... which I rarely use ..

Hope you like my new profile pic ... it is for the old beach Apple ... who goes back to nature and basics ... and a testament to some of the things I love about Australia.

Good Luck all

Lol

Dear @Jacques

Okay you have not upset me. YOu have not upset me. Actually, I was trying to ask you how to move on and you answered me with a thoughtful responce.

YOu are my friend. I care about you and @hiddenite so much.

Arlo give you big cuddles. He is getting his hair cut on Thursday and getting his yearly injection on Friday.

When you write : Maybe trying to start the conversation on your own terms, about the weather, polotics and general stuff does work too, everytime the conversation drifts to the past, gently deflect or change the subject.

Id what I wanted to know.

Thanks friend,

Anne

Re: Night Shift

Dear Jacques,

Ive been thninking about your good advise and I realised something about her .....my Mum and @LittleBuddha mother.

They havent grown up. They are still teenagers ......

I learnt all this stuff..........

and transference; where you transfer your dissappiontments of yourself and repressed memories of your childhood onto someone. Sometimes I think you can learn about all this stuff, all the books etc but...sometimes it doesnt really sink in unless you actually have it in your life.....I feel like Im having an epiphany....

This is what they do but @LittleBuddha says it so much more eloquently. They both had a trauma in their teenager years or early 20s that brought on this ....they stopped growing up. They just stopped and stayed these teenagers.

So then we start disscussing horizontal identification. So, people who are attracted to others who are exactly the same............our Mums they both go to the same church...more or less .hang out in the same group ......

In horizontal identification (writes a wonderful author called Jennifer Rutherford) like Australia....we are attracted to the same tyoes of people like we are and when someone......like a new girlfriend or a .....new friend try and come into the group, the group pushes to get them out.

we are not like this. We are pushing positivity.
