Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Oh I can't wait to have air con, our new place has it (yay!!!!) (moving in a few weeks). I'm going ok @PeppiPatty I'm just trying really hard to focus only on the things I can control in the day and not think to anything in the past or worry about anything too far forward. It's helping the anxiety a bit and my general mood has lifted a bit - could do with better sleep though!!!

Well done with how far you've come @Mazarita! One step at a time 😉 still hoping for positive news for your friend and her nephew.

In my new house we can have pets again!! I'm hoping to get a little dog 🙂 be so exciting but not for a while...

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member. Really wonderful to hear your mood has lifted a bit and your anxiety has been helped a bit too. And that you are keeping your focus mainly on the really important day to day things. Awesome your new place has aircon and allowance for a dog. Thanks also for the encouragement.

Re: Night Shift

Terrific @Former-Member that your moving to a better place. Having a clear direction will help ... and even with air con .. I am sure you will still find the odd excuse for water fun with the kids.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member, @Billamba, @PeppiPatty, @Jacques, @Appleblossom, @Former-Member, everyone,

It looks as though the night shift is also becoming the early shift for me at the moment. Increased dose of mood stabiliser seems to be really helping my sleeping, at least for most of the week. Still having breakouts into occasional later nights, mostly to do with video editing becoming very compulsive at times. But overall I'd have to say an improvement is happening. The other change is that, as soon as I lie on the bed, I relax and go to sleep instead of what was happening before that (feeling wired, having scary thoughts and so often not being able to sleep when I got to bed). This all seems to be meaning I need less sleep to feel okay during the day. I find I'm naturally waking up at about 6am. Good to be around for more of the daylight.

Hope you all have some bright moments in your day.

Yes, my airconditioner is a portable one but it's really quiet.....It is magic. Kaboom...it's on.

How are you?

Exciting that @Former-Member has decided to move...... (yay)

Dear @Jacques

Ive been thinking about what you write and yes, yes......we can rave on about their narrcassism and the unfairness but.....you know........

I really think that diagnosis is so important.......we can rave on about childhood wounds and all that.........

We need to move.......

How do we do it?

What can I say when in my Mum's company without laughing too hard.........

What can I say to my Mother in Law without rolling my eyes and laughing as well??

Ive decided that @LittleBuddha really wants me to have coffee with his Mother and Ive decided to do it but say "Yes I want to resolve your issues........All what you accuse me of are all wrong and Im not going to get too fussed about it.

I think........

Brave @Appleblossomis someone who HAs moved on from childhood/ teenagerhood

Re: Night Shift

Hi dear @PeppiPatty,

Sorry if my words are wrong, i did not mean just move on and forget your past, you past is part of you, it makes us who we are, our values and our vulnerablities. it is not about moving on, but letting go of the past and grabbing onto the future, we get so caught up in our own past that it can blind us to the good things in our future.

I have has family cherry picking the past too, i have argued with them until i am blue in the face, they still cherry pick, so now i just allow them to carry on, sit and have my coffee and stwitch off, wait until they are finished and change the topic, it has seemed to work the past few times i have seen them.

Maybe trying to start the conversation on your own terms, about the weather, polotics and general stuff does work too, everytime the conversation drifts to the past, gently deflect or change the subject.

How is Arlo @PeppiPatty, i am sorry if i have upset you @PeppiPatty, you are a friend, i think of you highly.

Jacques
