What can I do to help her

What can I do to help her

Hi. Im not sure what to do for my gorgeouse daughter. She is 12, gifted child with high intelligence and in a advanced learning program in high school. She loves it and is doing an amazing job.

A throughout her life she has been different, reserved, wise beond her years and has had trouble making friends. She never really belonged. She would tell me about these certain 2 voices that speak to her and lived in her brain but I would always put it down to a creative imagination. this has been going on since she was 5 or so.

I developed depression from when she was 7 and it gradually became worse, to the point that I couldnt function and I distanced myself from my family. I also have a son who is 8 and husband.

Over these years I was unable to be there for her but now life is better and Im strong enough to help.

Last year she told me that one of these voices became violent and was able to get into her body. It physically punched her up and she was unable to stop it.

4 months ago these, 2 voices left and 2 new voices have arived. My daughter has changed.

I got her to draw a picture of her mind and discribe these voices/characters.

These new characters are hostile, violent and plot hurting people. There is so much evil in these new charactes.

They are coming out more frequently and she seems to go into traces more often. My daughter wants help and is fearful of what they can acheive when they take over her body.

We have an appointment with a phycologist is 4 weeks but I just dont know what to do in the mean time. Our family is scared. My son has seen these charactes and is scared.

What can I do besides be there for her to talk to? She had her worst day yesterday and the characters were mentally trying to distroy her. My daughter discribed that they has blinded her in one eye and have knocked her our uncontious. Apparently they have knocked her out before, even for days.

Im trying to be strong and I am doing my best by asking her questions. Am I feeding this even more and doing more harm?

???????????????????

Hi @Nay

It looks like you have some really great plans in place.

You seemed so well informed. I really think you're doing a wonderful job. I wish you and your daughter didn't have to go through this though.

We're here if you need us.

Re: What can I do to help her

Dear @Nay

Good message @NikNik wrote isn't it? Im going to re read your message but at the same time, write to you remembering what I was like when I was diagnosed.

First; My family issues, which are very overwhelming right now are all because my mother was a bad mother when I displayed your daughters symptoms. I thought I was hearing vioces too and when it got very bad, I would wake up and see people watch me.

I was never given the love that you are giving your children. I think, remembering that time, my step dad saved my life by caring for me but then he also went bad too.

Enough of me;

Oh one more thing. Im on the most largest dosage antidepressent in the world and I need to sleep a lot. My Gp, one of them keeps on trying to cut me down, change antidepressants or lessen them because she says they will be working better if I cut them down. Its driving issues on me.

So; this is my advice; think very seriously if you want to change or rise your medication. Get your GP to refer you to a mental health hospital to speak to a doctor experienced in this.

Be proud, be strong.

Its in no ones business to tell you what to do about your son who I secretly feel that you are doing a good job, noticing his behaviour.

But he is a kid. We are remined of this over and over, with that cute smile of his hey :0)

Can your son see the psychologist at school? Can you make an appouintment with his Primary School headmaster/nurse/ teacher and see what they can offer him?

Without passing judgement and only to give you something that I did when my kids were little.

I would bend down to their height and look at them in the eyes and say, I love you, I am listening to you. You are important to me and it feels like its ........(daughter's name) getting the attention but your just as important.

Just keep on saying it.

Years ago when my oldest son was going through a terrible time....My younger son and him and me would stay up until 3am playing a card game skipbo and I would say that to my younger son. I also said, because he was older than your son, this is ....... time, If you can bear it, can you sit back for another week while he gets the attention? It worked out really really well.

But its difficult to do.

Can you watch a calm DVD with her? Can you bake her a cake. EVerything really calm.

Again, I dont want to write something that is wrong but I wonder if the grief that you are dealng with is also because you yourself were not cared for well when you were her age?

xx

Yes I thought it very important to physically get on child's level. I spent a lot of time on the floor and in pants so that it would be easier.

You give lovely advice @PeppiPatty.

I hope @Nay and her children are going reasonably today.

Re: What can I do to help her

thankyou my lovely friend, @Appleblossom

Im finding things really difficult at the moment, I shouldnt be on this thread.....

Im suffering panic attacks, every time I see this GP...she puts me on different medication because Im so tired all the time

Im also going through some sticky family stuff from bad parenting all my life,,,,,, and Im almost 50 years old.....so glad your here @Appleblossom

I wanted to write and be heard.

What my husband and I are discussing today is the absolute degrading speach that paople give when...."What do you do for a crust??"

1. never ever discuss your partner as suffering mental issues...like.

Hi, Im Anne. I am married and what I do is care for my husband who suffers times of mental ill health.

Its humiliating. Both of us have mothers who get a lot of ...attention by talking to both of us like we are morons and then. get great joy disscussing us with their friends and strangers.

hello @Nay and @NikNik

There are some amazing things hapening in my family Im almost ready to wite about but not on poor @Nay thread,

Anne xx

Wondeful advice ladies. Thank you

My son has gone camping over night with dad. Just to get him out of the house. Good for them. I have stayed at home with my daughter. She will not come out of her bedroom unless she eats.

Im am so sorry JA47 that your going through tough times.

Please if you have to speak, I want to hear. Good or bad. I need to hear your stories to be able to put my life in perspective.

I have a friend who's son is 5 and only has months to live, bone cancer. Any time I feel pitty on my self, I send her a be strong message and I feel better within myself and my life doesnt seem so bad.

I look forwards to for feedback @PeppiPatty and @Appleblossom.

Thank you for your help.

Re: What can I do to help her

Yes, we know about the mothers getting attention. We have chosen not to tell our parents and my daughter has asked for only those that need to know.

Several Children in her class have depression or suffer from some kind of mental illness, so at least she is not alone.

Question: Is it more common for those with high intelligence to suffer from a mental illness?

Re: What can I do to help her

Hi there...
I'm new here too. My son sounds like he has some similarities with your daughter. I took him to see a psychologist when 8. He was described as being a higher order thinker. Very intelligent with complex thinking skills beyond his life experience. I took him there because he kept telling me he couldn't cope with life and wanted to die. Once I learnt to understand him, things have improved. He is now 12 and much happier.
However, as your daughter really suffers with the voices, and there is a wait, it may be worthwhile taking her to your Children's Hospital Emergency Dept. for an emergency psychiatric assessment

Re: What can I do to help her

Dear @Nay

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think I was coping at all this week : wrote I'm having break from Sane Forums and ..... Then you and @Appleblossom write and I am happy.

I think that there's a theme there about intelligence and times of suffering mental ill health. Can I speak personally here ?
Though the question is not about me I would like to respond about me .....
Both my parents were / are considered highly intelligent in their field. My Mother has even worked for president of America. From a child though , as the only girl, my parents would consistently bag me about my school / to even today. They also did this to my youngest brother. They both bagged me and my brother so much is that my favoured brother has damaged himself by being passive and agreeing with both of them.

What I'm learning is about values in a family.
And as we all know, any sibling fighting is all about ....... Who does mum love the most ?
Who loved Princess Diana the most ? Was it her mother ? It certainly wasn't the royal family, her so called self declaring ' I'm as thick as two bricks, ' she swept her royal family upbringing aside to love her children properly but no family member approved of her.
I swept my family values aside of money and fame to bring my children up and focus on someone to truly love me.

Is this intelligence ? I don't know but when a child's belief in themselves is not truly supported and the child can obviously notice another sibling or parent being appreciated more I believe brings the high anxiety and depression. In your daughter : it feels like it's more of a hormonal change ...... And intellect though.
