What can I do to help her

What can I do to help her

Hi. Im not sure what to do for my gorgeouse daughter. She is 12, gifted child with high intelligence and in a advanced learning program in high school. She loves it and is doing an amazing job.

A throughout her life she has been different, reserved, wise beond her years and has had trouble making friends. She never really belonged. She would tell me about these certain 2 voices that speak to her and lived in her brain but I would always put it down to a creative imagination. this has been going on since she was 5 or so.

I developed depression from when she was 7 and it gradually became worse, to the point that I couldnt function and I distanced myself from my family. I also have a son who is 8 and husband.

Over these years I was unable to be there for her but now life is better and Im strong enough to help.

Last year she told me that one of these voices became violent and was able to get into her body. It physically punched her up and she was unable to stop it.

4 months ago these, 2 voices left and 2 new voices have arived. My daughter has changed.

I got her to draw a picture of her mind and discribe these voices/characters.

These new characters are hostile, violent and plot hurting people. There is so much evil in these new charactes.

They are coming out more frequently and she seems to go into traces more often. My daughter wants help and is fearful of what they can acheive when they take over her body.

We have an appointment with a phycologist is 4 weeks but I just dont know what to do in the mean time. Our family is scared. My son has seen these charactes and is scared.

What can I do besides be there for her to talk to? She had her worst day yesterday and the characters were mentally trying to distroy her. My daughter discribed that they has blinded her in one eye and have knocked her our uncontious. Apparently they have knocked her out before, even for days.

Im trying to be strong and I am doing my best by asking her questions. Am I feeding this even more and doing more harm?

???????????????????

No offence taken. I am happy that I am getting two different perspectives from @justanother 47yr and @Appleblossom.
I am so sorry that you both had to struggle.

My darling @Appleblossom
Let's be upfront
You are more intelligent than me
More um ...... Caring
In your writing
You are I dunno ..... Creative today .......from a past ..... We have already written about this.
I feel that Tara show was sensationalist. As We know MI is awful and we are poor poor poor on the pension .....I'm in love with a man who will never work who is dealing constantly with side effects fr Om medication. His mother comes over for a coffee every 2nd day
But that's it. No friends. I get silver chain in for company. My MI and his MI have made choices of having friends who are .......... Unsavoury.
No matter what @Appleblossom
I am sorry if I've upset you. You have been through enough.

Dear @PeppiPatty maybe criticised was too strong ... but "cracked" was not complimentary .. but also I recognise I was a bit brittle in my posts ... trying to integrate my selves ...and thats ok .. I am not that offended... living with difference is important .. it would be bloody awful if we were exactly alike.

I had a moment of paranoia early on with you... but YOU are part of the reason I signed up for SANE forums ...you are caring ... sending hugs ... I get that life as an adult has been tough for you and your family of creation.. I watch little tv cos its all pretty sensationalist .. SBS or ABC ... a couple hours a month ..then I feel I am out of touch with mainstream ... which is the story of my life .. that show just popped into my head at the time of posting thats all ... it might help soemone else reading it who knows ..

I think @Nay got what I was trying to do .. just broaden the scope ... its an active situation she is in .. right now .. anything that can help her manage .. will help her daughter.

@Nay Maybe acknowledge the character, but play it down in the house, its late, not give it too much attention or concern, and try and settle daughter with calming activity ...keep her company ...look at photo album .. jigsaw .. old fashioned me ... craft ... low key chat ... thinking of you both

Well a little progress. Putting the voices aside, we noticed behaviour differences in our daughter recently.

Her " I dont care " attitude and being constantly irritable/angry, triggered off warning bells. I got her to take the 10 question test on Beyond blue. She scored very high.

Off to the GP yesterday with the results and the GP concluded that she is on the high side of depression with high anxiety.

A slight relief that we now have part of an answer, now the very long 9 day wait untill she gets assessed.

I had a bit of trouble holding it together today and experience a panic/anxiety attack while shopping for my daughters birthday ( which is tomorrow ). I havent had one in years.

A child's birthday is pretty triggering for a mum .. people forget its a big anniversary for us too.

About 5-8 years ago I had a series of panic attacks when shopping for my son at supermarket ... it was about my fear that no matter how hard I try it wont be enough for him ... not due to his fussiness .. but due to his genuine need ....but they have subsided.

Glad you are getting some professional support.

What a good message you give.

This is exactly what I have ...but I'm 47 years old and she is 12 years old.

You should feel very proud of yourself for your diligence.

Please please see the GP for yourself.......these symptoms have a tendency to get worse as time goes on.

I am having a break from Sane forums because of my own brothers/family relationship and I need to really focus on that for a little while.

how is your son?

Also to let you know; your daughter's diagnposis is really good and she is coping because of your and your husband's love to her. You are one Mother I think is few and far between.......

Re: What can I do to help her

Thank you so much for your reply and reassurance. I need that at the moment.

My daughters behaviour is getting worse. At least I can re assure her that it will get better and her behaviour is the depression speaking. I have been in this stage.

I may just have to up my anti-depressant dosage to cope with all of this. I think that it is more about not knowing what to do, how to help.

My daughter begged me for help today because she cant stand the feelings she has. She has no emotion, good or bad.

The doctors wont do anything until she has seen the psychologist.

Her voices/characters have not been speaking to her much but they have been active, torturing/hurting her because she is mentally weak.

Just so heavy and draining.

My son is coping by seeking our attention all the time and doing silly things to try and make his sister laugh.

I hate that he has to grow up before his time, knowing about these issues but he needs to be aware that she can snap at any time and that its not him causing it. He is such a dear little boy.

Take care of yourself JA47yr xx

Hi @Nay

What an adorable son you have. He sounds like a very compassion person.

If you are worried about your daughter you can call the psychiatric triage (information, assessment and referral) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week : 1300 721 927 It doesn't have to be an emergency - you don't have to worry about deciding if it's a crisis or not, they will assist. Please consider this option, especially as you have the weekend ahead of you.

Also - I was a bit worried about reading that you might increase your medication. Please do this in consultation with your doctor - changing dosages can sometimes cause havoc. Are you able to either call or make an appointment?

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. I know you feel helpless, but you are helping your daughter so much. Please take care of yourself.

Nik

Re: What can I do to help her

Thank you NikNik.

Yes, we have been intouch with the psychiatric triage. They have a file on my daughter but think that we should wait for my daughter assessment in a weeks time. Unless she physically lashes out they cant do anything.

I am more worried about her hurting someone else, physically and mentally. She was so close to snapping today. It was extreme from begging me for help to hating me for being possitive.

I wouldnt up my meds unless I went to my doctor first.
