Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

Things are coming to a head with my family. My mum has always suffered Anxiety / Depression / Severe Mood Swings (?Sz/Bipolar - secretive). Now what she fears has come upon her - terminal cancer on top. Shws not coping, and also dads carer (mobility issues and dementia stage 2). Mum has passed her 2yr medical prognosis date with terminal cancer and fought hard to hold independence.

Her MI is sooooooo difficult to work with. Sooo ambivolent about everything, anxious, can't make decisions, argumentative, suspicious, shuts down, cries, abuses, withdraws... Sucks trying to help. Dads care is failing too, she resents all the in home help I've activated with him this last few years I'm seen as the enemy for doing that, even though she can't. Last week dad actually asked me to come help "looks like mums having to go into hospital"

They never ask

Then I get this tx from mum this morning. "Feel crook k#####(me) hows your flu today if you can come down what form of travel you choose and how can you look after the birds they are a concern dont feel good today at all but the day is young yet might pick up"

I have respected mums fierce need for privacy but today I rang palliative care to see what's happening for her? They got her mix d up with another 'same name' patient. Then turns out mum has never beenbreferred to Community Palliative Care (which is why they didn't know her), but had her last Admission Notes referring her to Palliative Care Dr, she's been doing those visits but talks about dad not herself. Next visit ?12th.

Mum has lost 25% body weight, is weak. After talking with her and x3 nurses today (like hours), clarifying wrong contact details and complex family matters, I feel shell shot!

Honestly thought these things were in hand.

I'm gonna have to go down, but OK his time begrudgingly. I live 12hrs away, I have a sister & 3 bothers within 5 - 1hr away. They can't handle mums MI - she has legal rights++ but don't know what she's doing now dad can't take charge.

The palliative care cimmunity nurse can't act without that referral from the hospital Dr, so shell look at that and then ring mum... All maybies of cause. My heads swimming with it all, any wonder mum just throws her hands in the air saying "they don't care, I'm too old, they just want me to die"... "And you lot are selfish and just want to put me inva nursing home and forget about me, and you all care about dad more than me..." Then she crack a joke about something totally related, say "don't wanna talk anymore..."

OMG!!! my cPTSD & cGrief trigger alerts are all firing. Feel resentful. Want to go to bed 'till it goes away.

My son even said to me this morning "mum you know people have totally cut off parents for doing far less than they have done to you!" Suggesting I abandon them. How can I do that and stand before God (and myself) in peace? This is so hard!

Help!

My mum isn't answering my text messages. My last words to them a week ago now was "i'm off to Newcastle (2hrs away) for a break a couple days, will you be right here?" Dad said yes, mum didn't respond or maybe didn't hear? She'd been ignoring me, nose in the air type ignoring lol, all morning, so no surprise she's holding something against me, angry. I don't handle this well. Guess I should ring them, but I'm weary (still hurt), don't want to give them another chance yet. Should I? Mums mum died on Melbourne Cup Day. Every year I ring her this day for a chat, miss that I don't feel I can today. Makes me sad. I did sendca tx earloer - maybe ignoring my text msgs makes her few l in control or something. When she asked me to go home for a break past week - she made a pointbof saying she has professional services coming in now, so maybe she's OK? But that doesn't answer why she's not responding to my 5 msgs since i left. She's angry with me about sometjing, my heart hurts. Dontbknow what i did this wrong, sheesh! I can't help or 'carer' her like this, or dad, or the two Sz bros she has on side, 1200km away.
But I care, and my heart aches 💜

Today in Craft Gp I started putting together their memory quilt of printed fabric photos, gonna be amazing! Hope its donevin time ❤❤❤

Its so hard to know how to help mum and I'm so far away and mum doesn't like talking in the phone. I had a lengthy conversation with mums community nurse (CNC RN) who is lovely and promises to keep me posted. Seems they haven't done home visit since discharge 2/52 ago (which I think is terrible). My two youngest brothers strugglung with their own MH issues do rhwie best, and mum prefers their company. Sometimes lirtle bro4 let's me in on bits: " I took Mum to the Shop's today and she was in the electrical buggy I pushed the trolley while Mum picked out some stuff she was pleased with what we got done in one and a half hours and to the pharmacy as well. And back home before 11:30 witch is a record for Mum at the Shop's. Dad forgot where ALDI is but he's trying to walk more. Mum's stomach is starting to swell again, don't know what we're going to do without your help this time, another trip to the hospital soon I think"<br><br>I suggested he or mum lets the Palliative Care community nurse know of any changes And thanked him for helping her. The four days later we had this conversation:<br> "hey, did ya ring palliative care comm nurse about mums tummy fluid yet?"<br>"Not yet, it's getting large but"<br>"is ringing them too hard? I gave you the number" he hung up.<br>2days later he tells me "flat out today. Mum's noticed her own stomach, doesn't want to go back to hospital she's crying alot more. I'm not supposed to say anything to anyone he said, but Mum called the Hospital today and they said come in to have her stomach drained tomorrow, don't say I told you" <br><br>Mum probably doesn't wanna worry people, its horrible. Who's gonna stay with dad? Its really hard for me to join the dots. I dont know why bro wont speak to mums RN comm nurse, I gave him the number for.<br><br>What am I doing wrong? Why am i so conflicted about my mum. Or feel so helpless? OE know if to throw myself back in the lions den - go help. Or pretend they don't exist since I'm 'so useless' living away. How can we stop caring? Yes I know its not the same as being on the front line. <br><br>Just need to tell somwone<br>

Re: Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

They're beautiful @Faith-and-Hope, thank you. I had a lovely check in by two people irl who were concerned for me. Lovely chats. Looks like I might house sit in Sydney for Christmas, get to see more of my parents while maintaining my own space, and mums (she needs that). Just tried to ring dad but he can't find the right buttons on the chordless phone now. I can hear him but him not me 😞 Bros said mum wasn't admitted but sent home (told them Sunday wouldnt work drr). Wed I organised the Comm Nurse to visit tomorrow, hope she does. Bro said mum doesn't want any phone calls tonight, too tired... hmm, but she talked with him 😞 They make me sad on so many levels. Never mind. Hooe youre ok? Its hard to track / find where you post your journey. Thanks to you and @Former-Member here, even thought I'd like you to say more. But I know my caring is a fraction of yours 🙂
