Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

Things are coming to a head with my family. My mum has always suffered Anxiety / Depression / Severe Mood Swings (?Sz/Bipolar - secretive). Now what she fears has come upon her - terminal cancer on top. Shws not coping, and also dads carer (mobility issues and dementia stage 2). Mum has passed her 2yr medical prognosis date with terminal cancer and fought hard to hold independence.

Her MI is sooooooo difficult to work with. Sooo ambivolent about everything, anxious, can't make decisions, argumentative, suspicious, shuts down, cries, abuses, withdraws... Sucks trying to help. Dads care is failing too, she resents all the in home help I've activated with him this last few years I'm seen as the enemy for doing that, even though she can't. Last week dad actually asked me to come help "looks like mums having to go into hospital"

They never ask

Then I get this tx from mum this morning. "Feel crook k#####(me) hows your flu today if you can come down what form of travel you choose and how can you look after the birds they are a concern dont feel good today at all but the day is young yet might pick up"

I have respected mums fierce need for privacy but today I rang palliative care to see what's happening for her? They got her mix d up with another 'same name' patient. Then turns out mum has never beenbreferred to Community Palliative Care (which is why they didn't know her), but had her last Admission Notes referring her to Palliative Care Dr, she's been doing those visits but talks about dad not herself. Next visit ?12th.

Mum has lost 25% body weight, is weak. After talking with her and x3 nurses today (like hours), clarifying wrong contact details and complex family matters, I feel shell shot!

Honestly thought these things were in hand.

I'm gonna have to go down, but OK his time begrudgingly. I live 12hrs away, I have a sister & 3 bothers within 5 - 1hr away. They can't handle mums MI - she has legal rights++ but don't know what she's doing now dad can't take charge.

The palliative care cimmunity nurse can't act without that referral from the hospital Dr, so shell look at that and then ring mum... All maybies of cause. My heads swimming with it all, any wonder mum just throws her hands in the air saying "they don't care, I'm too old, they just want me to die"... "And you lot are selfish and just want to put me inva nursing home and forget about me, and you all care about dad more than me..." Then she crack a joke about something totally related, say "don't wanna talk anymore..."

OMG!!! my cPTSD & cGrief trigger alerts are all firing. Feel resentful. Want to go to bed 'till it goes away.

My son even said to me this morning "mum you know people have totally cut off parents for doing far less than they have done to you!" Suggesting I abandon them. How can I do that and stand before God (and myself) in peace? This is so hard!

Help!

Re: Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

That's a hard one @Former-Member ...... I think it is more that there lies an eternity between the suicide act and actual state of death in God's beyond-our-time-time in which we become aware of Him if we haven't been before ..... and that is a time to reflect on what has happened and make our peace with him ..... if that makes sense. He understands all, including our experiences, state of mind, state of mental health, and what brought us to that moment ..... but I don't know anything for sure.

That is just my personal belief, and that He is a God of love, who never created our world to exist in this far-from-perfect-but-still-beautiful-in-it's-creation form. We have to do the best we can with what we have, and for those of us who are believers, that means we are all held within His grace regardless.

I feel the same about suicide & faith too (now there's a contradiction in terms for ya lol). I just cancelled all my commitments 'till 30th. Might lock my phone in the car and ignore everyone but my girl and God for the next week. The phone carries 90% of my relationships & I'm sick of it - doesn't feel real. And if mum dies - I don't wanna know.

Do what you have to do to get through @Former-Member

@Faith-and-HopeYou have a sensitive and caring perpspective and can probably imagine I have thought about these things. It helps me to see you both discuss god and suicide.

I would have loved to have people to discuss this stuff with closer to the time of all the deaths. My porr mother was understandably just TOO DEFENDED about it all. I never blamed her for the deaths but she cold not let that it in to salve her soul and therefore have a nurturing good relationship with me.

She made statements and proclamations. First up was almost superstitious stuff about it being against the religion. It was her way of dealing with her own internal torture, beliefs and religion. In last couple of years she pronounced that God forgave my brother and sister.

I was not that interested in her notion of god judging or condoning my brother and sister. I knew I could not budge her as she was very stubborn. I had completely different concerns and beliefs about it all. More seeing their pain and the social injustices. Not seeing mum as that big a part of it as I knew she had done her best. Mostly I was trying to prevent it from hapening in the first place. Her sense of misplaced guilt made it impossible to relate to her. What a muddle.

There was not enough money or time for me to have enough psychological sessions for the amount of HEAVY emotional issues life thrust at me ... so its til now that I start having decent respectful aware interactions about suicide.

Thank you both so much.

I know you both are going through very difficult times. ... Yes bathing cats can be tough.

Re: Mum Severe Anxiety / Depression +++

Hi Appleblossom, people avoid the topic of suicide, or fly into a panic if its bought up. It scares them I think. Its a fine line between productive and destructive discussion on the matter. Depending a lot on how its received. I have a theory that the discussion of suicide takes away much of the unknown, and therefore reduces fear so we can think clearly and not do it.

A friend of mine in hospital (both very suicidal) had a sober discussion one day about what one of us should do if the other dies. Neither of us were certain if we could stop ourselves. We agreed, should it happen, the one left behind would see the other as 'at peace now' and not be upset. Well, that was her words. A year later she did it, on mothers day 😞 at her parents house. I remembered what we agreed.

Really don't know how I'm still here, or why some survive and others don't. One thing I do know is 'its OK to crawl into a cave and get out of the storm'.

My family are stressing about mum again, which makes me feel more powerless, being away too, and abandoned by them. And closer to home ppl here will be cross I've cancelled myself for a week, but... ...

oh dear, it does sound murky, need to go think 💜
