New to Sane

Hi There, I have recently joined Sane. I have just recently moved to QLD from overseas and I was in New Zealand for 9 years.I am really struggling with being back home here.My husband is still back there. My parents are here my father has bad dementure/Alzheimer's and my mum who was always quite controlling.my whole life.Well she is worse now and medicated on alcohol and gets stuck into me.I have a step son who lives in nz and she has always made him feel like an outsider and not part of our family.Since arriving back I feel very lonely and isolated.I have two kids who are 8 and 6 and just started school.Ive had problems sleeping since I moved here and depression getting worse for me

Re: New to Sane

@TylerYou are dealing with this as well as anyone could be expected to. Three weeks in the hospital can be quite a respite from every stressor of life. I am sorry that your mom brought them into your family counseling sessions, that could not have been helpful. I will send you good thought and prayers that you get through this okay. I know you have the strength, you have made it this far.

Hi @utopia@Shaz51 sorry it's been awhile since I last posted. I was in hospital and felt so safe and got emotional support which was good. My psych had started me on new medication which gave me violent reaction. I lost control and was pushing bp machines over and Being irate to the nurses so I then had to go into isolation for awhile. As I've said my major upset was over dad passing away and my mum being so emotionally abusive. She never called only came to one counselling session which she thought my psych was talking crazy. She came to visit me told me she had small lump and breast cancer and she wanted me to react and be there. I was in bad way being hospital. It was all about her again. I got discharged but I still feel so lost and a depression and anger that won't ever end. Thanks for listening. @tyler

Re: New to Sane

@Tyler. Good to hear from you. I'm glad that you were looked after in the hospital. Although the reaction to the new med doesn't sound pleasant. Hopefully the new meds have taken a little bit of the edge off of your depression.

Unfortunately, we don't leave hospital fully cured. It doesn't happen that way.l We are in hospital during a crisis period. And our hospital stay is to help us through this crisis and to teach us a few learning tips on how to manage at home.

I'm hoping you have a psychologist already, or one lined up to speak to. The meds I find, level me just enough that I can absorb the information my psychologist is teaching me. And I can very slowly start trying to participate in life activities again. But it is a little strange when you first come out of hospital, where you are well supported, to going home and maybe not having anyone there.

It does get easier. And this depressive episode you have been going through, will end. It's trying to do your best, only what you can manage, until you feel that depression leave.

Be gentle with yourself and those negative comments we tell ourselves. I'm here anytime you would like to talk.

Re: New to Sane

Thanks @utopia I must admit I didn't feel very supported when I left hospital. I had massive breakdown but had to get back to the kids. I've been on same medication for nearly 8 weeks now, I don't feel any better in my mood. I've been seeing my psychologist but she is mental health social worker.I know after my 10 sessions under the MHC plan. I will have to pay for one and can't afford it. My psychiatrist is on holidays at the moment. My mum is complete narcissist and I have no contact or very little with her. My siblings live overseas but since dads passing I feel completely alone and cut off. My hubby is very supportive. He has to go to Canberra for work this coming weekend. So I will be on my own again with the kids which makes me feel anxious. As he will be gone for 6 weeks. @Tyler

Re: New to Sane

Hopefully your social worker can do what psychologists can, and that is apply to get you another 5 or so medicare covered appointments, due to crisis. So please check with her.@tyler. Also good to keep your local community mental health teams contact number, for when your support is away, husband and social worker. so you still have some support.

Is your husband able to cancel this business trip? or will he be able to come home on weekends to help you?

Not sure of the age of your kids, but if they are school aged, ask one or two of the mothers of other kids, if they could have your children for a few hours, once or twice a week. To give you a little break and time for you.

And you can And others are arouond 24/7.
