The Community Garden :)

The Community Garden :)

Being outside and enjoying the beautiful plants and flowers that are about is definitely something that's keeping me going at the moment, so I thought it might be nice to grow our own garden here where we can all enjoy it.

Please add any pictures, links, chats about anything you're enjoying in your garden, have found on a walk, wish you had in your garden etc. Or just enjoy wandering around 🙂

Re: The Community Garden :)

Hi @Shaz51@CheerBear@MoonGal@Former-Member@Bunniekins@Teej and all who drop by. I found the perfect vertical garden that I am going to create in my new home. We are building by the sea on a smaller plot of land and so I have to come up with smaller garden ideas. I thought this would go lovely out the back to drink a coffe with a friend and/or hubby next to. What do you think ???.

Re: The Community Garden :)

@Former-Member - that is such a beautiful vertical garden! A spring show of bulbs and flowers... I wonder if a permanent planting of hardy perrenials might be another idea, or a mix of the two so when the bulbs and flowers die down the garden still has some interest.

One plant that is shade loving (but likes light) are Impatiens, bot the New Guinea type and the 'annual' although truth be told - I have a four year old "annual" that just keeps on keeping on. Water hungry though. Like to keep their feet wet but drained. (pic below is from internet)

The other amazing thing I have seen is using timber pallettes upright, line with that garden fabric stuff, cut a cross- hole X and shove in a plant, water from the top. (This pic below is from internet of a salad garden.)

Waves to all the green thumbs. 🙂

Re: The Community Garden :)

Hi @MoonGal 👋 - I liked your idea of hardy perrenial plantings and I love Impatiens. The photos were beautiful - I love the vibrancy of the colours. I once had a tall growing singular, bright pink Impatient plant many years ago in a pot. I admired it in full bloom for a few weeks until one morning I came out to find it gone 😨. I later worked out a caterpillar ate it down literally overnight 😲. I never had a problem that way with other plants in another nearby garden plot so not sure why that happened. Have you ever experienced that? I would like to try growing them again in a vertical garden (the timber pallets look great) - any tips for protecting them naturally? Or would I need to spray? Any tips much appreciated

Re: The Community Garden :)

Love the timber pallet ideas for in the garden @MoonGal! I found a place locally that gives them away and has so many in different sizes. I went on a dreamy Pinterest boarding frenzy until I realised I can't fit them in my car :face_with_rolling_eyes:

@Former-Member that vertical garden is beautiful 💗

Waving hi to @Shaz51 @Catcakes @Faith-and-Hope and all who visit the garden 👋

Dropping off my new potted pretty (to replace one who didn't survive summer) to share here ☺

Oh @CheerBear - what a disappointment not being able to fit the pallets in your car. Still you had a lovely time planning. Pinterest is great for ideas! I also have some collections in there that I can just fall down the rabbit hole with playing from fanart from my fav. fantasy fiction reads.

Re: The Community Garden :)

I used to have 3 acres, mostly bush with kangaroos, koalas, echidna, loads of birds . I planted hundreds of trees and had flowers, herbs and veg. Now I live in the city and have 6m x 6m but I’m enjoying it all the same..
I can go out and potter for a few minutes or an hour and there’s always something to enjoy. 🌱🌸🌿
