The Community Garden :)

The Community Garden :)

Being outside and enjoying the beautiful plants and flowers that are about is definitely something that's keeping me going at the moment, so I thought it might be nice to grow our own garden here where we can all enjoy it.

Please add any pictures, links, chats about anything you're enjoying in your garden, have found on a walk, wish you had in your garden etc. Or just enjoy wandering around 🙂

Re: The Community Garden :)

Thanks @soul ..... still on the rollercoaster there (uni) ....

My Mum had a wonderful Dad. She told me a story about how she was asked to plant the beans one day ...... he had creat d the furrows, and carefully showed her how to push her index finger into the ground to the second knuckle, drop the bean into the hole it had made, cover it with earth, use her hand laid flat on the ground end-to-end to create the correct distance to the next one ..... then repeat.

She had three rows to do ..... but she was little ..... and the sun was hot ..... and the job was tedious .... so it started to be two beans per hole ..... and holes of whatever depth ..... and a few holes all in a row .... then some wider gaps between ......

A week or three later he called her aside and asked to her to come with him ..... and walked over to the bean patch ...... and oh, dear ..... !!

He didn’t need to give her any speil ...... he didn’t need to relate it to what we sow in life ..... she got the message ...... and he helped her to replant the seedlings so that the mature vines were easier to manage than if they left them as they were ......

😏..,.. 🌱🌱🌱 🌿 🍃🌱🍃🌿 🌱

What a beautiful story @Faith-and-Hope. It's brought more than a few tears to my eyes. Missing my Dad right now

Re: The Community Garden :)

Hello everyone in the community garden 🙂

I am a little excited as my green thumb is more of a brown thumb

However I am having great success this summer with our passionfruit vine, lettuce, dill, parsley and mint! Boy that mint has grown about 20 times its original size.

Does anyone have any brilliant ideas what I can do with so much mint? I pop it in smoothies with orange, pineapple, apple etc and its delicious but that's only a few leaves at a time. If you have any ideas please share them with me 🙂

Re: The Community Garden :)

Why thank you @Shaz51 🙂

Oh my, look at your lemongrass! Clearly it's enjoying all the rain. Do you use it some how @Shaz51?

Re: The Community Garden :)

@Former-Member

chop it up in a salad, use it in tea, make a pesto dip with it, add it to a warm bath - it is meant to help relieve stress, can make a mint essential oil also

Re: The Community Garden :)

Only lemongrass tea @Former-Member, but I think i need to find other ways to use it , I think it is running away from me

Re: The Community Garden :)

Yes it is @Shaz51 I think I can see it has its running shoes on!

@Former-Member thank you for all of those wonderful suggestions, I'm so excited as I've never had much luck growing things before. I'll let you know how I go. Popping some in a salad tonight for sure- don't know why i hadnt thought of that one myself

Re: The Community Garden :)

One of our favourite salads is egg and pea @Former-Member.
Boiled eggs, cooked peas, diced onion, or spring onion, or chives, favourite salad dressing ( we do sour cream with mayo )
And a good clump of diced mint .
