The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

I walk every day and aim for 10k steps. There is a walking track near the local park and so I go around that. Started with 1-2 laps now it's 6-8.

@soul Walking has always been a big part of my life, whether its like @Faith-and-Hope from one end of the house to the other, there was a long way from file cabinet to kitchen sink, or out in the bush.

No longer a routine walker, but enjoying it more when I do it. Not a step counter either, just trying not to upgrade my clothing size.

Same @Appleblossom .... I walk the basic to the coffee shop and back to try to make sure I stay active (and the coffee is the carrot) but beyond that it's about walking as much as I feel to, when and where I feel to ..... and asking myself, "Do I need to take the car, or can I walk there ?"

Yes @Faith-and-HopeIts important to figure out what is right for the individual. For a while I was walking so much I started feeling that my hip joints would wear out prematurely. I had enough joint issues and did not need any more... lol

Hi @Maggie .... 😊👋

@Appleblossom my body has been telling me what the boundaries are too, when I am pressing them. Ended up with a pulled ligament in my groin a couple of months ago now, and it kept re-injuring with just general movement about the house. Now I am reluctant to do any more than to the coffee shop and back in one stint, although I can manage a second walk in the day sometimes .....

Gentleigh-bentleigh as YOU say ..... 🤗💕

Yep @Faith-and-Hope

Sometimes I was getting super powered up and charging along the footpath and fell over last month. I like that I get a bit of cardio going.

Today I actually trotted for 20 metres which is wonderful as I am very careful about low impact for 25 years. I was actually pleased I managed it and cant wait til I tell the osteo.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

No walking today, except around this small flat and out to check the mail. A bombed out day after difficult medical appointment and news yesterday. Will try again tomorrow.
