The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

I hope you all got more than a few steps in today. I did my usual dog walks, grocery run and yoga trips.

The funniest thing I saw whilst I was out walking was the mess a puppy in our street made when she decided she wanted to know what was inside her pillow. The whole front yard was covered in feathers. It looked like it had been snowing. An hour later her owner was vacuuming them up.

@soul, I didnt leave the house today until 7pm when I was going next door to fetch the little people from grandparents. Had big plans but slept for most of the day. Little people stayed home from school and possibly again tomorrow.

Had big plans for the day but Failed. Try again tomorrow.

Are people not well at your place @Determined? Hope you get a chance to go for a walk tomorrow.

Little people are not well @soul, debating if they should stay home again tomorrow, will see in the morning. Thankfully I have been able to keep it at bay so far other than more fatigued than usual, I really dont have time to be sick at the moment.

Hi @soul, @Determined, @Maggie, @Sans911, @utopia and everyone, hope there were some good or okay moments today, whether or not going for a walk was a part of it. I was out on the buses and walking around for a psychologist appointment and later a visit to my nearby friend. I walked home along the beach. All up I probably walked about 2kms. Part of the beach walk was at my usual slow pace. I also walked a lot faster for about half the beach walk ( 0.7 kms?). I haven't stretched out in pace like that for a long time, it seems. It felt good. Thanks for the group inspiration in this thread. 🙂

Be careful @Determined - when you're tired and stressed, your resistance to germs is lowered.

How lovely to be walking along the beach @Mazarita - you get bonus points for that.

Carrying shopping gets you extra points as well @Sans911. My local grocery store is a km away and I usually stop by everyday. That way I can manage carrying whatever we need in one or two bags. I also like to buy fresh veges and fruit, fish, meat etc.
