HOME

Well I'm finally home (again).
4 hospital stays in 91 days. Wow. No wonder it feels so strange to be in my own house again. Adjusting will take time. Cooking for myself will take time.
My house is in the same condition in which I left it. A pigsty. So no one room has warmth and charm to lift my mood. Will have to slowly start cleaning up - one room at a time.
I did go and watch my son play soccer in the finals. I'd been so sick this year - thst it was the first game I had been to all year. His team lost. But they play again next week. So still stand a chance of playing the grand final.
My son is still living with my mum. Has been since the end of April. Hopefully he will see how much I've improved on my new anti depressants and anti anxiety meds. Then he may choose to come home soon.
Was up and doing the washing early this morning. But now reading a book in bed.
Am very bored. But have AA Meeting tomorrow night.
And I have my WorkCover IME (independent Medical Examination) - psych interview with a tough psychiatric on the 30th of this month. Think it could be on Wednesday. And then I have my much waited for Psychologist appointment. Can't see him when I'm in hospital (too far away).
So that's it for now. A new thread for a new beginning.

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - a teenager being selfish and not doing what he's told? No that can't be right. It's a shame you couldn't have had some sort of gradual moving him back in... like one day a week, then two etc. I think he belongs at home with you and he needs to contribute and be more supportive. Lucky he had your mum to go to... he probably should have been more grateful but that's not how the teenager brain works. I should know - I was a teenage boy once and it probably hasn't crossed his mind that he should be at home being a help to you. Hopefully your mum isn't like my daughters' grandmother with a non-stop netflix and junk food marathon while sprawled on the couch. They love going over there... total lack of discipline. Maybe he needs a good talking to by a neutral person? It's difficult with you not being well. I remember being sent off to relatives when my mum went off the rails and being resentful - I was a lot younger than your son but it was never explained to me at the time and maybe things would have better if it had been. I would just have an uncle or whoever show up at school to collect me and nothing was said. It is difficult to reason at his age though - he'll probably have that light-bulb moment eventually and be less self-centred but who knows when that will happen... only time will tell. Thanks for asking after me - not much happening in my life. Been looking at courses for next year and have been to a few information sessions. Really need to find something that will lead to a job at the end of it. I got enough of a payout to keep me going for a while but I'll need to get a job eventually. Certainly keeping myself busy now though - lots of work in the garden and getting some life administration done which had been neglected while my head was snowed under with lawyers and VCAT hearings and crap... glad that's all over now.

Re: HOME

@Former-Member. Yez a self absorbed teenager. Who would have imagined it! Lol. I still think he's better than me at that age.
I've always fully disclosed my MI to him. And my mum has also explained what happened to my brain from the workplace incident.
What sort of ideas do you have in mind study wise? Do you have a short list?
I'm thinking about doing an Arts degree - majoring in Aboriginal History and Aboriginal Studies. But I'm atill not sure if I'll be ready to cope with school by next year. Guess I'll just leave it to the last minute.

YAY!!!! I slept last night.
Fell asleep before 1am. Woke for the loo at 8.30 & then back to sleep til 1pm.
A full 12 hours sleep. I feel refreshed after days and days of barely sleeping.

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - wow 12 hours that's an epic sleep, you must feel good after that. You can never underestimate the benefits of a good sleep. I restrict myself to seven hours just so I always maintain a schedule. Wake up - let dogs out, feed dogs, feed cat. Wake kids, feed kids, take kids to school... lazy gits should take the tram. I'm looking at a few courses - I'm really focused on finding something with job prospects though. I've spoken to a few advisors and as soon as I mention job placement I get hit with silence. I've got enough money to last a while but I really need to get a job for my own self-esteem and my savings won't last forever. Plus I'm getting the snide disrespectful comments from my daughters "well you don't even have a job"... probably getting that from their mother. Yeah teenagers - always the confidence-boosting, positive comments to make your day just that little bit more awesome So if I do anything it will probably be a Cert IV as I don't think I can be out of work for a year to do a diploma. I always liked working in hospitals and clinical environments despite the management bullies so I'm looking at mental health, drug & alcohol counselling etc. I don't want to go back to what I was doing but if money gets tight I might have to.

Re: HOME

@Former-Member - mental health or drug and alcohol counseling sound good. I believe it's good to have people in the industry with a direct knowledge of the situation. So that's great for you.
Yes I have a 15 year old who reminds me all the time "when are you going to get a job" etc - even though I'm except from that due to my mental state - at the moment. Don't need to hear that when your struggling to get through each day. Teenagers!!!

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - yes you have to love the teenage mentality... call you all manner of names then five minutes later - "I need you to drive me to blah blah's house". I've explained to them how I had to leave my job as it was an unhealthy environment and how I had to go to court to get money out of them without going into detail about how I was treated and used as a scapegoat once they knew I had a MI. That's the thing about bullying and discrimination - it's people using power against you when you are vulnerable. I would hate for anyone else to got through that but it happens to so many who have to stay cause they need the money. For that reason I really think I need to give back and help people in that situation. It's difficult getting my teenagers to accept that staying in that workplace was not an option and having one of them say "why didn't you just suck it up" is hurtful and not helpful. I didn't realise how much damage had been done until I was out of the place and how I need time to get my head back in a good place, I'm sure you're the same - you don't just get up and walk into another job. It's not that easy.

Re: HOME

@Former-Member. It's a good lesson to teach your children. Bullying can happen at any age. And that we don't have to accept it. Ee fight agains the bullies. How great you are teaching them that.
They may not understand it now - but they will in the future and they will be proud of you.

Re: HOME

Hi @Former-Member and @utopia, that's really interesting hearing your teenagers attitudes towards work. They make it sound like the be-all and end-all to life- and something that defines your identity.

I have moved so far away from thinking like that.... but I guess when I was young I was more or less like them.

Work is just a means to an end for me. Of course I would prefer not to have to work! I don't need a job to feel valuable or like I belong to society. I spend my time at work looking at the clock, counting down the minutes until I can leave.... then I can be free.

It's not that I am lazy or anything.... perhaps I have just never found something that I find truly rewarding. For one thing.... I usually reed my co-workers as not too clever and kind of "duped" or unreasonably attached to their work. I can't help feeling this way.

Its like they conform for the sake of conforming.

I realise that you have to conform at work or else you get fired, but I still can't part this.

Anyway, I by starting
