HOME

Well I'm finally home (again).
4 hospital stays in 91 days. Wow. No wonder it feels so strange to be in my own house again. Adjusting will take time. Cooking for myself will take time.
My house is in the same condition in which I left it. A pigsty. So no one room has warmth and charm to lift my mood. Will have to slowly start cleaning up - one room at a time.
I did go and watch my son play soccer in the finals. I'd been so sick this year - thst it was the first game I had been to all year. His team lost. But they play again next week. So still stand a chance of playing the grand final.
My son is still living with my mum. Has been since the end of April. Hopefully he will see how much I've improved on my new anti depressants and anti anxiety meds. Then he may choose to come home soon.
Was up and doing the washing early this morning. But now reading a book in bed.
Am very bored. But have AA Meeting tomorrow night.
And I have my WorkCover IME (independent Medical Examination) - psych interview with a tough psychiatric on the 30th of this month. Think it could be on Wednesday. And then I have my much waited for Psychologist appointment. Can't see him when I'm in hospital (too far away).
So that's it for now. A new thread for a new beginning.

Hi @utopia - hope your day was good and you got to enjoy the sunshine. I'm sure your son will come home eventually and have his light bulb moment. I have a teenage daughter and awareness of what's going on outside their little world is not their strong point.

Annoying about the washing machine - is it still under warranty? I worked for an appliance repair company years ago and often the manufacturers would send us refurbished parts for warranty repairs which would quickly fail with the same fault as the original part. Was really frustrating for us too as we only got paid once per unit so if the same fault recurred we would have to go out and fix it again and not get paid. Sometimes it's easier to just buy a new one = planned obsolescence. Terrible all the stuff we throw out and just replace - phones, TVs, computers, microwaves. Do you have much on for this week? Hope the weather stays nice.

Re: HOME

@Former-Member. Washing machine still under warranty. Not even 2 years old. He fixed the original problem on his 2nd visit. Now it's a different problem. I bet it's something simple like he forgot to tighten a screw or something.
Because I live in country Victoria - I have one approved repairer. Unlike if I was in Melbourne. It's really giving me the shits. Theyddon't answer their phone. They don't return messages. And when I finally get through to them, I have to wait until they are next coming to my town. Not bloody good enough.
I'm in a pity me mood today. Everything is negative in my head. Feel like I'm slipping back into my depression. Which I don't get. Because these new meds worked when I was in hospital and when I first came home. But now they don't appear to be working the same.
I do nothing all day. Read a book. Sleep. Watch tv. It's not a life. I haven't been able to settle into a routine at all. I'm slipping backwards.

Re: HOME

@utopia I'm sorry to hear you're not so great. Depression is such a life sucker.

Bloody electronics these days aren't built to last & repairers but aren't what they used to be. I hear how irritated that can be.

Re: HOME

I'm drinking every day. I'm chain smoking. I washed my bed sheets but haven't put clean ones on yet. I'm doing nothing. Weeks fly by and I'm doing the same thing. Just sitting outside or lying in bed.
My breathing is bad, especially early morning and late at night. That makes it hard to do breathing exercises. Oh hell. Who am I kidding. I have no motivation - no desire - to do those exercises or go for a walk or weed the garden or clean the house - or make my bed.
And I still don't have an outreach service - after all this time. WorkCover have given me a new case manager but didn't tell me. I keep chasing them for outreach service. They told me I can use Mind Australia - but Mind don't have any record of me. Because I have a change of case manager & no one is looking after me. I'm sick of having to chase them. I shouldn't have too. They should be helping me.
I'm just in a really bad mood

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - it's not good that you're slipping. I find that having purpose is the key. Make a list of something to do everyday. If I've got my kids then I have to take them to school or their after-school actvities so then I have to be places at a certain time. I don't want to fall into the habit of not keeping busy. I'm guessing that you'll eventually want to return to work? Not in the same place of course but maybe return to study with a plan for a new career? I'm looking into courses now as part of the settlement deal with my now former employer is that they'll pay for retraining. Might be something you can look into if you are negotiating a settlement.

With the washing machine, often directly approaching the manufacturer can get you quicker service - if they have a facebook page post a negative comment and explain your frustration and they might pay attention. Companies these days are very aware of the power of social media and negative press. Maybe get your clothes washed at the local laundromat (if you have one) and send them the bill. You have purchased their product and you have an expectation that it is fit for purpose. Something to think about anyway. Have a good night.

Re: HOME

Not surprising you are in a really bad mood @utopia - you have been let down again. Seriously - you have a big win with workcover and then they let you down again - not acceptable

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia

Sorry to read you are feeling you are slipping backwards. What I have experienced personally is that the anti-ds help to stabilise the mood, but if there isn't a long term health plan of routine and pursing within personal limitations some personal goals, I will fall back into a depression. I agree with @Former-Member that having purpose each day is vital for all round healing. Keeping busy is very important to obtain the latter and for avoiding a relapse back into depression. If I don't do that I overthink everything and can mentally slip away, especially over past hurts, losses, grief, perceived failures and regrets. This can also trigger substance abuse in some and deepen depression.

I know you should not have to but please keep pursing a case worker, as gaining this asssistance will help you to organise a rountine and purpose that will see you feeling much better once again. As you won with work cover, keep perservering with your long term care and you will overcome the odds again. Please let us know how you get on.

Re: HOME

Hey @utopia - sorry to hear that you are just drifting along. I concur with other opinions here that it could be helpful to make a list of things to do. Get into a routine that includes some exercise and something productive around the home. Try to get out a bit, look for some free events.

The days can reallly drag if there's nothing to look forward to or no purpose.
