HOME

Well I'm finally home (again).
4 hospital stays in 91 days. Wow. No wonder it feels so strange to be in my own house again. Adjusting will take time. Cooking for myself will take time.
My house is in the same condition in which I left it. A pigsty. So no one room has warmth and charm to lift my mood. Will have to slowly start cleaning up - one room at a time.
I did go and watch my son play soccer in the finals. I'd been so sick this year - thst it was the first game I had been to all year. His team lost. But they play again next week. So still stand a chance of playing the grand final.
My son is still living with my mum. Has been since the end of April. Hopefully he will see how much I've improved on my new anti depressants and anti anxiety meds. Then he may choose to come home soon.
Was up and doing the washing early this morning. But now reading a book in bed.
Am very bored. But have AA Meeting tomorrow night.
And I have my WorkCover IME (independent Medical Examination) - psych interview with a tough psychiatric on the 30th of this month. Think it could be on Wednesday. And then I have my much waited for Psychologist appointment. Can't see him when I'm in hospital (too far away).
So that's it for now. A new thread for a new beginning.

Re: HOME

No @soul - it was a one off - thank God. Just to confirm the family dynamics as I describe them, to educate them on the ups and downs of recovery from depression and most importantly - to see if there could be improvements made in communications between my son and I. And I think there was.

Re: HOME

Think you might have more contact with your son now @utopia? I know you were hoping that maybe he'd live with you again.

Re: HOME

@soul. He said he will come home - just not now. I said, when you feel comfortable with me and my health and he said yes. I said, that's good. I'm still not great but in a few more weeks I think there will be a more noticeable change in my health - fingers crossed.

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia

I took the day off today - just felt tired and achey-painey - things could have been worse but still

I took the chance to read back through some old messags in my phone and I had forgotten that your mother has CRPS and Fibromyalgia - not good - either one is more than just one pain - wow - her life must be tough

And considering that presently younger people who are more atuned to what is going on the the world of psychotherapy I would assume your Mum would be like mine and find the whole thing really uncomfortable - even though I am probably about your mother's age - and find it okay -

My mother really needed to have a attitude adjustment - she was a strange person - and would not have vaguely entertained therapy until she had to after Dad died and she totally lost the plot and as you know and I know we are often told to confront the person with who we have trouble and at least tell them (us) what the problem/s is/are

And my mother had to tell me - alas - the poor woman was totally unaware I had had a long conversation with Dad before he died about all of that and she got stuck with the sentence that they had done wrong by me and repeated it three times not hearing me telling her I knew and it was okay and not to worry - I had to leave the third time because I thought she was about to have a heart attack

I thought I would share this - I think your Mum had a hard time with the session - I hope she can manage it again but - yeah - what do I say - your mother has chronic pain and fibromyalgia is confusing with the "fibro-fog" doing whatever it does - I know people can have trouble getting lost in their thoughts

But I am proud of you - you sound so much better now - and wow - you seem to have a presence and a future that wasn't there before - you have been vindicated - and it is so good to be vindicated

All the best Utopia - I really hope life does move onward and upward for you now - and it seems your son is okay in spite of everything and just needs time

Gentle hugs

Dec

Re: HOME

Thank you @Owlunar for understanding.
Yes my mum is in a lot of constant pain. The pain plus the meds - cause confusion a fair bit.. As she told my psychologist on Thursday. She 'understands' all about depression. She lived with my dad for 20 odd years - where he was undiagnosed PTSD. She was yearly dropping him off at the psych hospital. And she also grew up in a time when you just got on in life and moved forward.
As my psychologist explained - most people didn't just get on with it. They used 'Mothers Little Helpers' - pills. Or they worked and brought home the bacon, but they drank themselves to oblivion everynight. So they may not have died by suicide. They msy have died by liver poisoning. But that's just a slower suicide.
Mum wants doable answers. And she's frustrated and stressed that she can't help me. It's just the way it is.
And my AD's - on this higher dose are working. So I'll keep improving.

Re: HOME

Well it's 7.30pm and I've managed a day without alcohol. Day 1. Starting afresh. Or never giving up giving up.
I feel good.

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - glad to hear that you are making progress and the meds are kicking in. Sorry about your Dad - it must have been hard on your Mum and you. Interesting about how people used to deal with mental illness by self-medicating with alcohol. My family on my father's side has a history of dying young from alcohol related illness. I researched my family tree a few years back and there was so much early death from liver failure etc. going back many generations so I know there is really a genetic component to MI. At least now we live in an age where we can get treatment for MI and there is more understanding in society. Years ago there was no information and people just self-destructed on alcohol. I don't touch alcohol at all now and haven't for many years. Also since having kids I know I need to be a good example. I think Australia has less of a drinking culture now - people seem to take their health and social responsibility more seriously these days.

Re: HOME

Hi @utopia - glad that you haven't self medicated with alcohol today. Got any more AA meetings to attend this week?

You're right @Former-Member about better awareness regarding health issues and mental health in particular. Still a long way to go but it's a step in the right direction.
