i see @Former-Member
its too late for me to swap to anything else because ive nearly finished. I still hate the fact that i have seemed to have left a lot of my career planning til the last minute. But then again i guess this is just what depression and anxiety can do. Best do it now because i have time. Time is still on my side.
By the end of the week ill have a better idea over the financial situation i am in. My parents keep saying that its no big deal but i disagree. I need SOMETHING on my resume and i need money to be able to afford things i like and that i enjoy. I won't save much because i wont be earning much but thats okay at this point. I guess my plan at this point is a basic level of money and to start researching internships again. Even graduate roles. Its really hard because it requires effort when i am exhausted but i guess thats life. Plus i am slowly starting to discover im not all that bad at social situations.
Part of acceptance and commitment therapy is just accepting my depression and anxiety for what it is and then getting on with my day. So far I have been able to do that. But lately it just caught up with me.
Yesterday i came up with an idea to do a tesol and then teach english as a second language. Just as a back up/safety net between graduating and finding internships/graduate roles.

Re: sick of this sh*t

@MDT, it's not too late at all.
It took me 10 years to get my 5 year undergraduate degree with heaps of failures and withdrawals and here i am doing a masters! I'm also struggling with cash and work, but there is work out there. Have you thought of doing some volunteering? It can really help give you skills if you feel you don't have any.
How old are you, if you don't mind me asking.
tesol sounds like a great idea, just be aware that your depression may not go away whilst overseas so you might have to contend with it in a foreign country.

Re: sick of this sh*t

Hi @MDT,

I can relate to your frustration. It took me twelve years to do my four year degree because I could only cope with one subject at a time for most of it and I also deferred quite a few semesters altogether. For all those years, people kept telling me to keep going and that it would be worth it in the end. I tried a lot of different avenues to get advice (I agree that careers counsellors are amazingly useless!!!) and I was just constantly told not to worry about the future and instead focus on this exam or this assignment. It is now two years since I finished my degree and thus far it has definitely not been worth it. Although I do a little bit of tutoring and marking here and there, my primary source of income is the disability pension. It was like people thought that getting my degree was going to magically fix the mental health stuff. I am now 40 years old and less employable than I was when I started my degree at 26.

I know that none of that actually helps you, but I just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this struggle. Also, I think getting the TESOL qualification is a great idea.

Re: sick of this sh*t

..routines used to work for me re uni well plus other stuff. Go to uni, give self snickers and small iced coffee then realise things aren't so bad. I never Really fitted in. Was 10years older than most there, lots half started wonder where that was going or could have gone re new friends.was a bit like work for me in a way except it was interesting and less structured ie stick to the reason you are there and relate to others through that well in smaller classes anyway. My confidence used to rise fall, waver, there was always study to fall back on instead of wondering why only get a hello from some people or why they seemed to act differently if saw them outside lectures. Sure you'll be fine @MDT

Re: sick of this sh*t

Mm gawd. Yeah was a while ago re me and uni. Impersonal can work. If you want something well people aren't that different in a way even if you are sorta confronted by them. They have same doubts fears etc its just how the deal with them. At least on the outside. Prob saying something is temporary means predetermining thru whatever vehicle eg fear of rejection etc or.. means well why are you with them? You know the answer. Try not to take things personally and may sound horrible but why would people want to be around you? No that's not a The Sky is Falling exercise .. and don't question yourself It someone isn't interested they are interested . Body language can give this away and re interest try adding another sentence to 'hello' maybe.. and thank yourself afterwards. It will make you feel better. You are you even if you don't feel right. Trying not to throw too much in but google maybe or just go somewhere where there are people. Things can happen. And it they don't accept your 'gift' of getting to know you, then move on. Someone will. Looking needy can be off putting tho. @MDT

Re: sick of this sh*t

Hi @Hansolo01 - Sorry i didnt see your reply the other day or mssed it somehow! I definitely don't think its too late for anything but can see how frustrating it is to live on limited resources etc. Starting with an internship my lead to different opportunities. Also know lots of people who went and worked overseas teaching English who loved it! The TESOL course is pretty good too (i've done parts of it and qualified for english as second language teaching and i'm a primary school teacher).
Hope your day got better!
