Re: not coping

About 10 years @Lee82 . I was only supposed to be there about 2. I had an Ancestral Visa as my grandfather was born in Scotland so that meant I could stay for 5years. I just couldn't claim benefits. It wasn't always easy, sometimes I had no work.I worked really, really hard. The nurse to patient ratios were horrid (that is too many sick patients to one poor, run-off-her-feet nurse). I used to go home many times and cry. But I also left UK to go work in Gilbratar (a UK Territory) for 3 months- just awful hospital, great country. And I worked in Saudi Arabia for 15months as well. Oh, and I worked in Northern Ireland-horrid experience too, but fab country and people.

Wow you have been around everywhere. @Sans911 That must have been a pretty unbelievable experience even though at times it seemed it was pretty rough going. Travelling the world is something I have always wanted to do. You still nursing now?

Re: not coping

The courses im studying atm are just shorter courses for now @Lee82 i dont really have the capacity to do a uni course atm but im sure these courses will lead to something in the future, if its not nursing then itl be something else in the medical field as thats what i want to do just not fully set on a profession as yet.

Re: not coping

That's fair enough @outlander you have all the time on the world to decide. Its great that you are doing all these little courses whilst you aim to get back into uni studies. I admire your drive. ☺️

One good thing about these days is that you can do all these mini courses and it will help credit you when you decide to go back to uni. Look at me saying these days....lol I finished high school in 2000. Well yea I guess that was 20 years ago...which is almost your age...lol

Re: not coping

I had some amazing experiences @Lee82 around the world. No denying that. And I've travelled to many, many countries that have been shared here with @outlander 💜 and others.

I had a mental health breakdown whilst working overseas Lee in 2015. I was initially diagnosed as bipolar, which changed to BPD about 6 months later. Plus the severe depression & anxiety. Off course I just thought it was a little blip in my life and I could shake it off by throwing myself back into work here at home.

That lasted 2 years before I was forced to stop working due to a rapid decline in my mh. I wasn't allowed to return until I had a medical certificate from my GP.

I was ready last year to return to reduced shifts, but I got a cancer diagnosis, which led to major surgery and I'm still recovering now. I could return to work now, and have signed on with the nursing agency I was with before. But then Covid came along. My GP now doesn't want me to work due my physical and mental health risks. And there's no work for agency nurses right now.

I bet you are sorry you asked whether I was working @Lee82. Sorry for the long post. This is actually a short version.

I'm not sure whether nursing is right for me anymore. I have discussed this often here with outlander and others. But she would be a fantastic nurse, so if that's what she wants or anything else in the medical field she has my full support. And she knows that too.

Re: not coping

No please stay @Lee82. @outlander would say the same. I'm enjoying our chats. I don't know if you have been in conversations with 3, 4 or 5 members at once but that gets interesting. I just drew @outlander back into the last post, and I see she has replied to you. Don't forget too, I've known lil Sis (my nickname for her because I've never had a younger sister & she's never had an older one) @outlander for almost 3 years! We have lots of time to talk.

Re: not coping

I am so sorry to hear about all that you have been through @Sans911 . You have been through more than your fair share.
thank you for sharing all that with me.
you should consider teaching nursing...from what I read before when you were helping @outlander you are great at it. ☺️
