Re: not coping

Oh that’s nice of you @tyme 😊 I enjoy helping others

Thank you,
I’ve got a Miriad of certificates. I’ve just started another skills course 🤦🤦
I have 2 Tafe courses in mental health so I may be able to RPL them too. I wasn’t sure if I could do the stuff I do as a CG but it’s good to know I could do that.
I’ll have a look into those courses. I’ll be finished my current Tafe course and my last 2 skills courses by the end of the year so I can enrol into another one next year I think

100%! I'd definitely suggest you look into it. It's such a ever-growing industry @outlander And it's so needed. For people who really have the lived experience to share what has worked.

I found being a CG so rewarding, and that's why I looked into peer work. It's look like I finished school and dreamed of being a peer worker... it just happened 🙂

It's been such a rewarding experience.

I'd totally recommend you look into it. You can also have a look at the careers page of SANE, ReachOut, Beyond Blue etc. It'll give you an indication of what they are looking for. I believe SANE hires mental health support workers too. I'm not sure if the jobs are still up, but I've seen people employed as support workers.

Re: not coping

your right @tyme i just need the cert 4. i had a look at the website you linked me into as well but it doesnt have the cert4 but they have other online courses that are cheap or free i can do while im studying the one im doing at the moment

today makes me wonder why i even want to work with people. i know my BPD can exacerbate things but it hits home sometimes that when its someone your suppose to trust

Re: not coping

I wonder if MHCC is updating their website, because only recently, I got all the info for Cert 4 peer work and mental health work. They even emailed me. @outlander I'll keep my eyes on the lookout if their website changes. I'm on their mailing list, so they usually send me info.

As for the BPD aspect of things, have i ever told you that most people I know who have BPD work in areas where they help people? I've met so many social workers, nurses, teachers, support workers... who all have BPD! They have more the front facing person-to-person jobs... it's actually something I find fascinating.

I have a feeling that it is because a person with BPD has the ability to 'feel' the other person, and therefore be drawn to helping them.

Thus far, I have not net a single borderline who doesn't work with people.

You've just solidified by hypothesis 🙂

Re: not coping

They might be @tyme it wasn’t showing many courses when I looked but I’ll look later tonight.

I think I feel things to much. It’s good as I can empathise and pick things up probably quicker and more then what others can but it also takes a toll.

It’s hard because my emotions just seem to kee getting hit like at work twice today someone I trust really didn’t listen and just wanted to vent to me and put themselves before anything or competing with my emotions, not listening when I was trying to tell them someone-work related, and it seems to happen more often then not and it’s tiring.
The other is I found out the new manager who took over from me has an issue with me now and is going around saying things behind my back because I keep pulling him into line with work and stop him from blaming other staff when it’s not their responsibility to do his job. It’s upset me actually and I really don’t want to be working here. I esp don’t want to be here today and I just want to go home but where’s home? I don’t like going home either so it’s not any better. I don’t have a safe place and that’s hard for me

Re: not coping

@outlander, sorry to hear work has been tough and no where seems like a safe place. Managing work politics is a tricky one. I can relating to not feeling safe anywhere, I feel like it’s often a trauma response. Is there anything that helps you feel a bit safer? Or can you imagine yourself going to a safer place?

Re: not coping

That sounds so rough @outlander . I can hear why you may be questioning why you are working around people.

I used to ask that question all the time. But then I realised the answer. People need people in order to grow. If you want to learn and grow, then we must be around people.

It has always been said, that if a borderline lived on their own on an island, no one would have any idea BPD existed. This is because BPD needs people in order to manifest itself. I learnt that my avoidant personality had to face my worst fears - people... and yes, I've certainly grown from it.

I had to be explicit taught social skills so that I could tackle some of the situations you have described. It feels so strange that I needed to be 'taught' how to socialise. But it's worked 🙂

Hugs to you. I hear how hard it is.... and the idea of, "where's home" is such a hard reality.

Re: not coping

I just put my headphones in and listen to music @creative_writer I still have to be sort of present while I’m at work and I’m here till 11pm again. Urgh I’d rather nights no interaction.

Not many respect the new manager because he’s lazy and likes to take credit but do no work. Everyone has asked me to come back into the managers role but I don’t really want to. Not at this point. Wrong workplace to be doing it in I think

Re: not coping

Well then maybe I should live on a desert island @tyme then I can get rid of the bpd but then again it prob wouldn’t because then the isolation would start creeping in. Urgh. Can’t win.

I think it’s more the workplace than the people I’m around though. It’s a toxic environment and it’s also very boring. It feels like I’m not really helping but more babysitting grown people. It’s not really what I want to be doing. I’d rather be doing something constructive.

The socialising part and fitting I find very difficult @tyme @creative_writer not just because I struggle in general with that but I also think it’s because I actually do have such a hard time fitting in. Being a young carer I missed out on many opportunities that many young people would have gotten and helped learn social skills whereas I was to busy growing up faster then I should have. These days people my age almost make me uncomfortable because I can’t relate to them unless I’m supporting them in some way ie peer supporting. Most people I get along with are much older then me but they don’t really want to hang out or include me because there’s such a big age gap and many of our likes are still different event though experiences may have been the same
