Re: not coping

Yeah, esp if all the people are sleeping @outlander . Do you ever do overnights?

Re: not coping

i do sometimes @tyme but im not usually lucky enough because everyone who works second jobs in the daytime get the overnight shifts.
i like the overnight shifts the most

Re: not coping

I reckon they would be awesome shifts @outlander - if you don't have kids or a family to see to.

Can you ask for these shifts?

Re: not coping

i do but my boss never gives them to me. even with the usual person who does nightshift away this week she still doesnt ever give them to me. its prob not the right time though since im struggling to stay awake in the day let alone the night time @tyme

overnights are so good. its the wuiet night and even though theres nothing to do its a different sort of nothing to do. the peace and quiet is welcomed

Re: not coping

my boss was so slack in giving my those shifts that i had to keep having time off work when i had stitches after i had a procedure done. the surgeon cleared me to only work night shifts because it was easy going and no bending over or having to squat or anything like that to bust them open but instead she constanlty just made my shifts half the time to avoid making me to personal care activities. i lost alot of my hours for soemthing that she couldve just given me 3 night shifts for 2-3 weeks till i was healed

Re: not coping

thanks @tyme

you obviously do Peer supporting. im wondering if theres any specific qualifications that need to be done? id love to get more into peer support work. it would be great to work for an online platform like sane or reachout as ive been on both but id like to try and help people with their challanges like chronic pain, and young carers and/or carers in general. i know im young but i feel i bring alot of life experiences knowing the NDIS processes, NCAT processes, Aged care processes, plus my own lived mental and physical disabilities and caring roles.

Re: not coping

Great question @outlander . I certainly see how great you'd be as a peer worker. I can see through your interactions that you have really lived life (despite your age), and can share stories of hope and encouragement. Only tonight, I was going to send you an email about it 🙂

Peer Work has only been recently recognised as being a vital part of MH services and organisations - hence this is why you may be seeing more Peer Work roles around the place.

A good start is to have a Cert 4 in Mental Health or a Cert 4 in Peer Work up your sleeve. This is open many doors for you.

If you live in NSW, MHCC have a fast track course for Mental Health or Peer Work which can be completed in 6 f2f days. It's a fast track course which you can do if you have experience in the field (which you have as a Community Guide). As a Community Guide, we can sign off the practical components when you apply for recognition of prior learning. https://mhcc.org.au/training/funding/

I'd encourage you to contact them as I can't seem to find the details online.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
