Hi just wondering how to negotiate staying safe with an unwell son. I believe he may be manic he has created a debt, irritable and aggressive. Friends have commented to him that he is hyper and he commented himself on how he feels he is talking a lot. He likes the fact the meds have got him going ....fast but with it is snapping, anger and aggression. We attended a community health review following his week in hospital in which he presented well and despite my concerns were told to just go see psychiatrist who is currently away, for follow up. I am scared for my safety. I have had a drink sprayed around my car and me whilst driving. He has deliberately upended food and furniture on the floor, broken items and seems to think his behavior is warranted. When he us calm he agrees not to be this way but can't do it obviously when out of control.
@WinterSunSo sorry for your loss. I only read your thread now. Its certainly tough losing 2 boys in a year. I know too well the terrible cost of suicide in families.
Falling through the cracks in different mh organisations is so wrong. It is such a messed up system, needs more coordination.

Hi @Appleblossom
My reference to losing two boys is one to mh issues and the other to ending his life.

Re: Staying Safe
Hi @Former-Member
Doing as okay as you can in these circumstances. We are fortunate to have lovely friends and family who are keeping us busy which we are grateful for.
Other son is keeping himself busy working.
We have been able to have very open conversations with family, about lost son and his life our relationships with him and loss through what he did, which has been very therapeutic.
Still waiting on report from the Coroner just interested to see it.
We are still hollow shells trying to work out how to survive our catastrophic loss and adjust to our new normal.
Suicide is never the answer. Your pain is transferred to those who loved and valued you.

Re: Staying Safe
@WinterSunIt still was very sad to read about your struggle. I am glad your other son is busy and working. Mental illness is so difficult to manage that it is a loss too. I gathered that that is what you meant when I read your thread. The suicide would not have helped your son diagnosed with the mental illness. It is also good that your family are able to have open conversations about it all. Suicide can devastate families.

@Former-Member
At this point husband has been stable. Counselling has been accessed and hie has lovely psych dr who I can phone if things deteriorate. Currently on leave as work wants to reduce accrued leave of staff.
Son has missed two appts with Community Psych as he was given work and saw that as more important. Care co-ordinator is on leave and person covering has contacted us regarding another appt with date & time. This was followed up with letter to my husband with details and request to contact prior to appt to give update. Son has also received letter. We will be doing whatever we can to get him to the appt stressing it’s importance. His meds have been unchecked for months and there is a good chance they can be reduced as Community Health has felt that he is over medicated.

Re: Staying Safe
Great to hear hubby is keeping stable @WinterSun, I do hope for you that son keeps appt, know meds were of concern.
