The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Going to investigate places where I can do some yoga here in Chiang Mai. Not sure of the level of expertise needed or the type of instruction but should be interesting all the same. How are the tables, cats and cows coming along?

I did severa cat & cows this morning...

Yes that cat does look like it's doing some sort of yoga posture @soul

Where is Chiang Mai? I hope you do find some classes to go to, that would be really interesting in a new place.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning everybody, this is a super quick fly-by because I'm really working at not being in Forum Land too much over the weekend.

@soul did you manage to yoga on the plane? I will be SUPER impressed if you did!!! I am looking forward to hearing about your Thai yoga adventures. Maybe you will get to try some different poses that you can share with us.

@Adge do you have any suggestions for this week's pose? What is one of your favourites???

I didn't yoga for a few days and I really noticed the pain in my back reappearing. Cat/Cow posing super helps my back. I am still super working at trying to stand on my forearms. It is definitely going to take a bit more practice! I'm also working at not putting so much pressure on my head when I do a headstand. During my private lesson, my teacher said that my head should only just be touching the floor, as though someone could slide a piece of paper under it. Of course, this means that I need to support myself with my forearms more, which again comes back to building strength in my forearms. So that's what I'm currently working on.

Happy yoga-ing everybody.

Yoga on the plane was going to be a bit of a challenge so I gave it a miss @Phoenix_Rising. I did manage some stretches though.

I did yoga in the Buak Hard Park yesterday. I hired a straw mat, watched the going ons around me and did several poses including table, cat and cow. Got into the downward dog and planks, swan and of course shavasana.

I went to seek out a yoga studio that had good reviews only to find that it was closed for renovations. Was supposed to be open by Oct 5 but that has come and gone. Will continue my search as I am missing the sessions and am intrigued to find out what they are like.

Was thinking maybe a cobra pose for this week? Any takers?

Re: The great yoga adventure

Yes yoga on the plane would be quite a challenge @soul - too little space...

Cobra (if I can remember how to do it), or Upward dog might be good. I'm having trouble thinking of any poses to suggest...

Yes upper arm strength, that's always an issue for me too @Phoenix_Rising. My arms have atrophied with old age (hee hee) - just skin & bones, virtually no muscles in there...

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good afternoon everybody,

This post was supposed to happen earlier today, but alas it didn't. Oh well, it is here now.

@Adge and @soul I super like the idea of doing cobra pose. I'm thinking we will do that one this week and then do upward facing dog next week. I am not totally sure of the difference between these two poses, so it will be super cool to do both over the next couple of weeks. Here is how to do cobra pose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4qrNdMLUpw

Do you think it is ok if we put some cobras in Forum Land? I guess so long as they are friendly cobras it will be ok.

I will be heading off to my yoga class in about an hour. I'm super looking forward to it because my big feelings are kind-of gigantic right now so hopefully yoga-ing will help.

@soul I super can't wait to hear more about your yoga-ing adventures in Thailand.

Alright, who is going to be a cobra this week?

Hey @soul @TheVorticon @Shaz51 @Maggie @Ant7 @Adge @Mazarita @CheerBear @Former-Member @Anony18 @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @frog @Former-Member @Former-Member @Wildflowers @Former-Member @NikNik @Former-Member @Former-Member Who wants to do some cobra-ring? I bet you can't say that word too easily.

Happy yoga-ing.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Yay for @Shaz51.

@Former-Member The idea of lots of baby cobras sounds super cute. I wonder if @CheerBear might get some baby cobras happening in her house sometime this week too.

I was a cobra tonight. We didn't do it in class but I did it when I got home.

Re: The great yoga adventure

I'm glad that they are friendly yoga Cobras @Phoenix_Rising

The other type of Cobra would be a bit scary, especially if there's going to be lots of little ones running around...
