The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

@Phoenix_Rising and @soul - mischief?! Never. I was just planning hi-jinks and shenanigans!

@soul I'll have to have a look to see what all those poses are 🙂

The sweetest thing happened at my yoga session this afternoon. The instructor is getting married so her parents arrived today having driven here from interstate. They attended her class. The mother was pretty good but her father struggled a bit. It was his first ever yoga class.

I had a wonderful time and we chaired several times. Hope you all enjoy being furniture.

Where are the Yoga-ites? Perhaps they have all gone to an Ikea store to be chairs there.

Is this afternoon’s class we did a lot of yoga against the wall. Legs up the wall, hamstring stretches with feet against the wall. It was a bit different. Enjoyable.

We did chair so that’s the pose crossed off my list today. Here’s some more chair poses - not exactly Yoga ones though.

Yes, it seems that we yoga-ites have disappeared @soul I love your yoga pose pictures.

Trying to identify "where in my body (what part) do I feel this emotion" (from the iRest book) is really difficult. My yoga teacher said that she can't easily do that either.

I have found that anxiety feels like a tight nauseous feeling in my stomach - & sadness or despair feels like a heaviness in my forehead. Otherwise it's really difficult knowing where (& how) in my body I feel that feeling.

iRest also wants us to identify & feel the opposite feeling too (at the same time) - that's hard, but he says it's important.

So opposite of despair is joy, & maybe for fear it is confidence & strength...

One of my yoga instructors says that we hold a lot of tension in our shoulders and hips. I know for me that my shoulders are especially tight @Adge.

Instead of walking to my yoga class, I drive as the rain has been very heavy today. I thought it may have deterred some people but the class was rather full. I enjoyed a very pleasant Yin practice. Nice way to start the week.

We didn’t chair and I did tonight. Last chance Yogas. New pose tomorrow.

Hello @Shaz51

Yes I am all better now thank you, my munchkins had the flu first, fingers crossed no more sickness for a while. I managed to get a couple of other mods in the office to do the chair with me last week, looking forward for the next position.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Lets hope this week is kind to everyone.

Take care, MummaMia

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning everybody,

I have to confess, I didn't chair over the weekend. The past few days have been particularly tricky in my world - which means really it would have been a good time to be yoga-ing! My back is feeling rather sore today due to my lack of yoga-ing so that is a good motivator to do lots of yoga-ing this week.

I see that @soul has put in a request for table pose with some cats and cows thrown in. We do that a lot in my yoga class. It definitely makes sense to get some tables in Forum Land to go with all the chairs we made last week. And who wouldn't want cats and cows wandering around Forum Land!!! Alright, so here is how to do table-cat-cow pose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqnua4rHVVA The table bit (which is shown in the video but isn't actually called "table pose") is the bit in the middle of catting and cowing, where you are simply on your hands and knees. Maybe this serves as a good introduction to tabling and then next week we can explore variations of tabling - like making a three-legged table.

As to where all our yogis have disappeared to, methinks some of them might have decided that walking is more their thing and gone off to join @soul on her walkabouts...and that is a bazillion percent ok. Happily for me, I have no felt need to be around lots of people so I'm just as happy yoga-ing by myself as yoga-ing with others.

Having said that, I'm still going to nag encourage others to do some yoga-ing. Hey

@soul @TheVorticon @Shaz51 @Maggie @Ant7 @Adge @Mazarita @CheerBear @Amour_Et_Psyché @Anony18 @Rockpool @River9 @Chamomile @Lauz @5-HT @frog @MummaMia @Lunar @Wildflowers @Nell23 @NikNik @Former-Member Where are you??? Do you want to come and help us fill up Forum Land with tables and cats and cows????

@Former-Member I am super curious to know which moderators you managed to get to be a chair last week. I super want to add them to my list of people to nag encourage.

Happy yoga-ing.

Good evening everybody,

I posted a post here this morning but I have a feeling that the tagging didn't tag (either that or everyone is ignoring me ). Thus this is take two...

Re: The great yoga adventure

I did see the earlier post (although not sure if it was from a tag or just from general browsing) and have already catted/tabled/cowed @Phoenix_Rising 😉 I wasn't sure about my back being that flexible, but it at least felt somewhat like the right thing. Have you catted/tabled/cowed today yet?
